Anyone play squash?

Anyone play squash?

I just started playing in January, and I love it!

I think the game gets a bad rap as a hoity-toity sport, but I don't care...it's fun!

I play a bit. Great exercise and I have courts in my building. For me it is like golf, somethign fun to do with a buddy, but no way could I ever take it seriously.

Totally.

Although I find racquetball is better for the anger release. Something about a bigger, heavier ball and the fact that it bounces like a mofo is just really satisfying.

Racquetball isn't in vogue right now though.

Just came back from a game with my brother, he beat me, first time he ever did but i was playing shit. a while ago i got hit right in the eye with the ball and my friend said "shall we continue playing?" i couldnt see out of it for a day and had to go to the hospital to have it checked out. Had something swollen inside but i still beat him.

I bought goggles for that reason.

To start out I bought a really crappy racquet for 30 dollars, and it broke. Then I borrowed another 30 dollar racquet and it broke.

So I finally stepped up and bought a real one.

The first one's strings broke, and the frame wasn't worth the labour to re-string. The second's handle broke off at the bottom somehow. It was a Sport Chek special.

Anyway, just got back from playing, delivering a sound thrashing to my friend and opponent. It's about time. I've been playing catchup for weeks!

Many years ago (okay, like 20!) squash was my biggest passion in life. Great way to stay fit and avoid studying. Played at least 4x per week, entered a lot of tournaments at the 'C' level and a few tourneys at 'B' level. Got my share of red-and-white 'bullseye' marks on my ass from getting hit with the ball!

Pretty much dropped off my radar since I moved to Van 15 years ago. Onterrible has a lot more squash clubs to choose from. It's more expensive and more difficult to get into a good club here. Probably the best place to go is Denman Fitness, but it's too far from home to get over there all that much.

Besides, mountain biking is way cooler!

Oh ... anyone who plays squash w/o goggles is nuts. It's not a matter of if, but rather WHEN you'll lose an eye. That ball moves fast and it fits into an eye socket perfectly.

Kn.

I play, I took it up about 6 years ago (crikey it's been a long time!) and play about twice a month now. I used to play with my mom, but a couple of my buddies have just shown interest. It's a good game, especially when you have equal opponents.

Definitely a good game to be able to play for those boring rainy indoor sport days.

I heard that you guys have something called "key clubs" in Van. Basically everyone has their own key to a warehouse with courts and you can go play whenever you want. No staff, not a lot of fluffy athletic club crap, but a reasonable yearly fee pays for the rent and cleaning etc.

Anyone on the boards belong to one of these? I would like to learn more.
