Need to buy 2 heart rate monitors, what to get?

My wife and I just signed up for the NSRides Bootcamp and they are recommending using heart rate monitors.

Since neither of us own one and she has only used one a couple of times at spin class we need a lesson on what features are needed, what features are luxuries, how much to spend, where to get them, etc.

The first training ride is this Sunday so mail order is out.

Help please!

I have one and also use it as a regular watch. Good value.

One luxury to consider for your wife is a sports bra that is made to hold the chest sensor or if one is sewing inclined to modify existing ones.

This is from Polar

It is supposed to be more comfortable and apparently decreases chafing. At least that is what I have heard.

Well if you're wanting to use it for cycling as well then look for one which also has a wireless speed sensor, bike computer features etc.
Best to go with a descent name brand as these electronic gizmos seem to have a few quirks and product support may be important.
MEC has a good selection and usually some knowledgeable staff.
And pain free returns if there is a problem.
