Unless this is a weird one, XC Rs were just a lower-end XC 600/700 mtb fork? That one looks kinda long, though, I guess, but I don't remember ever seeing anything about a cyclocross version.

I have an XC700 sitting in my basement. I loved that fork.

Wasn't it the low end when the XC 400 was the nice one?

I remember the 400 had holes in the lower leg while the XC R did not.

I have two of three of these forks in my garage. Two 400's and one a little different. The forks felt great, but blew seals faster than a Boxxer at Whistler,

I'm pretty sure the XC R lasted all the way up to the 700, or at least the 600.

I always thought the 700s were so cool with the holes in the legs. I always wanted a DH3 so bad. My 700 ended up getting this problem where instead of leaking, it would suck in air and get stiffer and stiffer as I rode. I'm pretty sure I went to a Manitou FS after that, which is also still in my basement.

The old 700's. I kept blowing the oil seal it seemed like every 3 days. I think I was one of the first few to get access to the mod kit to make it oil/coil.

By the time I found out about that I already had my Manitous going, so I just left the 700s in the box.

Man those Manitous blew, though. Also, stupidest internal design ever. All plastic. The nut on the end of the damper was plastic, and the area that interfaced with the wrench was about 2mm tall. Talk about begging to be stripped. The oil always leaked out of them within a couple weeks, too, but the damping was so crappy that you couldn't tell the difference anyway.

Man, I miss that bike.

I remember the XC51s being the shit..

I remember MBA saying they were better than the XC400s and cost like 1/2.

My mistake. I was thinking of the XC 51.

So the fork in the auction is actually for 700c wheels. I missed that first time around. That indeed makes it rare.
