I haven't seen any good sales in a few years, but Overtime normally blows out their older inventory for next to nothing. A few years back (before SRAM X series derailleurs), I picked up a drivetrain kit (9.0 level; derailleur, cassette, chain, shifters and cables) for $200. Hell of a deal to upgrade to SRAM completely.

Last year was a real disappointment in terms of Boxing Day sales in most of the shops.
Like Steve said, Overtime is definitely the place to go for deals.

In Jan 05 I went in there and bought some 661 shoes for waaaayyy more than I should have paid, but I needed them. I had my 04 brocard and asked what the discount was, I was laughed at, "it's not 2004 any more." even though you couldn't get the card till like the end of Feb. 05. Also they had that Demo 9 frame forever and wanted like $4200 for THE FRAME!!! They do often have good deals on clothes though..

not to argue but If you read the bottom of the backside of the Brocard, it says "expires 02/28/05". Sometimes it pays to read the fine print.
If JH had a Demo 9 frame for $4,200 then it was the MSRP which every retail bike shop I've ever been in does. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you have a situation where your not happy at a bike shop or any other shop, take it up with a manager and it can usually be resolved to your satisfaction. Bashing bike shops, especially ones that support the trails is not cool.

John Henry is cool enough it dont need huge boxing day sales. They help alot of riders in other ways.

About JH: they're hit & miss with me. Usually don't have the best prices, but sometimes they have killer clearout sales. A couple of years ago they had a good boxing day sale, last year not so much. I keep shopping there though because the service is USUALLY excellent, and they don't mind ordering parts that they don't stock. Some bike shops just say "Nope, can't get you that". |
