The N word
So given the recent use of the word by one Kosmo Kramer, Jesse Jackson and some Senator in the states have called for the N word to be banned from use. Be you black, white or green

Bill Cosby has been saying this for a few years now, not banning the word, but asking blacks to stop using it

Quinton Taratino has taken a different approach, by using the word frequently in his movies, he wants to take away it's shock value and hence it's power.

Sticks and Stones can break your bones, but names can never hurt you.

If they are going to ban a word... ban African American!

Why must they be viewed as a different race... why can't they just be "American"?

But I agree with jpi... you can't ban words... are they going to wash their mouths out with soap?

The whole PC thing pisses me off. People are always so worried about saying something to offend someone that they don't express their point of view. We should all learn that sometimes people will say some things that we don't like and live with it.
So many examples of what I mean, eg. Noone says Merry Christmas any more, what's wrong with wishing someone the best on your holiday? It doesn't mean that you are forcing beliefs on them!
Same with all the "bad" words, by outcasting them and making them wrong will perpetuate both their use and offensive nature. You can see the effect in children the most; If they say something that is bad and you react to it, they will keep saying it because it has an emotional response. If you could walk into a crowded mall and shout "FUCK!" at the top of your voice and noone reacted, then the word would lose all meaning and value, instead, you would likely be asked to leave, which just fortifies it's nature as a bad, offensive word. Same goes for anything else really.

Thats one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. How do you go about banning a word?

Whats gonna be the punishment for this?

What will the response be to the word being used in a new single by a black rapper? And what about when/if the people pointing the blame at this listen to the album and the word is used a couple of dozen times?

Of all the black rappers out there that frequently use the word, how many do you think will stop using it?

I know quite a few people of 'colour' and they use the word frequently, for example--> A bunch of us are at another friends house, someone else shows up, one of the first things that's said is 'whats up nigga'...used every day. They'lle even say that to me, I'me basically white.

I have no problem with black people using it.

For myself it's not part of my vocabulary and I have no problem with the double standard.

Being white and straight I often suffer from a sense of indirect racial guilt.
