incredibly light, incredibly expensive

ummm... wow?

3000 euros - pair of lightweights
900 euros - clavicula crank
2000 euros - custom Crumpton SL frame
300 euros - zero gravity brakeset

campy record, what appears to be an Ax-Lightness or Tune saddle (350 euros), and an Ax-Lightness seatpost (300 euros).

The bike is that light and you need a compact crank? Fugly, to be honest.

Forgetting for a minute how it looks, let's think about how it would ride.

If anyone needs an image, try this - 5 kilos of al dente spaghetti stuck together with salted water and used post-it note glue. ick. I'll bet that thing couldn't hold a straight line if you dragged it behind the broom wagon.

It never ceases to amaze me that the lightweight freaks never talk about how their bikes ride, only how few clicks they put up on the scale. Gimme something stiff, then let's talk about weight...

Lightweight Standards are plenty stiff... as used by some very large european pros. Those look like the 20/20 spoke version. Same as used for track racing in germany by 90 kilogram guys pushing 180mm cranks.

The frame is probably a lot flexier than it could be. Could be replaced with a Cervelo R3 that weighs the same. Bottom bracket / chainstay stiffness tests conducted by the magazine tour.de show that the R3 is stiffer than most 1300g carbon frames.

pretty neat. i could care less about how they ride, i'm just fascinated by obsessive compulsive weight-weenie-ism & the exotic bits that comprise these projects. 7.84lbs (!):

*I'll* give you something stiff, but I don't want to talk about my weight.

I'd still laugh. Who needs a compact crank to haul a sub-10 lb bike uphill?

I'm all for project bikes, too, but c'mon, if it doesn't ride well, then...? I guess it's like collecting old cars or tuning or something. It goes sideways for me if it's your regular ride though and it feels like suck.

And that thing ^^ is super fugly.
