Coasting up Mt. Fromme???

At work we recently converted my old XC bike to electric power (lithium ion). I can cruise on relatively flat ground and do 32Km/h with no pedalling and get a range of 35km.

Up hill I can do ~25-27Km/h with no pedalling or pedal assist and do 35km/h.

I think Daisy would be the trick for those that want to coast to the top of Fromme.

Daisy

Edit: The rear wheel has an electric hub motor and the battery is in the box where the waterbottle should go. The battery box is HUGE compared to the batteries we put inside, but we did this conversion in couple hours so we made do with what we had at the time. There is a throttle on the right hand grip and a LED read out and speedo on the stem.

I highly doubt it will ever see dirt, but are you serious about DNV and electric bikes??

The motor pulls 280W on flat ground full throttle. When accelerating the motor pulls 450W.

Different bike, disconnect battery and throw it into your camelback and you are all set to go. Gad, I can hear thegiggler having an aneurism all the way over here!

How would the motor stand up to 2 G drops with suspension? (just interested, not serious, OK!)

Can you use the motor as a brake and recharge the battery coming down?

wow you work at a fun place!

so with a gear combo of 20T granny up front and 34T in the back this thing should be able to climb some fairly steep terain?

It doesn't use the gearing system. It drives the rear wheel through the hub.

Okay...picture this, big bike, better built motor, battery in the camel back you can self shuttle Seymour.

The hub would likely explode or kill the bearings in the motor. The thought crossed my mind about making it fit my Devinci Ollie, but then I came to my senses.

It would climb like a billy goat with the right tire on the rear. Pedalling is assisting the motor in the hub.

A friend of mine had a bike similar to that a couple years ago. 600W brushless motor, Lithium Ion battery. Fast, quiet and lots of fun.

What I really think would be awesome is building a dual motor bike. I'm not sure it you can get 600W front hubs but if so that would be sweet (other than the weight).
