Question 888RC, 66RC or 66RC2X on 05 Aline ?

Hey all,

I sold the 'ol 888VF and will be replacing it with either an 2005 888RC, 2005 66RC or 2006 66RC2X.

My questions (no gearwhores please)..

Would the 05 Aline / 04 Team DH frame suit the 66RC ?

I liked the 888VF and love the 'feeling' of the DC, however I'm frustrated at times in the tech/twisty trails where the DC feels at times a little 'too much'.

Has anyone seen a 66RC/RC2X on an Aline (05/06) ?

Thanks and any input would be appreciated.

My ride is a stock Aline with hopes. Ride whistler 99% of the time. Usually Freight to DM to Aline or Sin to GG's to Capt Safety to D1.

Will the 66's on the 05 Aline (heavy ass pig) frame feel 'solid' down the drops .. dropinclinic, rock drops on DM/Aline/GG..etc.. ?

Well, my 5" Firefly feels solid on dropinclinic and all the DM stuff. So don't worry about the 66 not feeling solid, it will feel solid, it is a lot of fork. Keep in mind that your bike will always feel like a lot of bike, and keep in mind that the 06 forks will be lower than the 05 forks (compared to their respective models). To keep in the spirit of the A-line I would go with an 06 888, but if you want to significantly change the feeling of the bike, a bit lower, snappier, etc. 66 ora similar fork could work wonders. Basically, the question is, "what do you want from it?"

The same 'solid' from the bars down to the axle feeling as my 888VF with the lightness and maneuverability of a SC.

66 should be fine then. And the only reason to pick the 05 66 would be if you don't want the bars to drop down too far and your headangle to become much steeper. But if you dont mind your headangle being 2-3 degrees steeper you can always swap bars and such to find a nice height.

If I don't get a sweet deal on an 888RC, then I'll get the 66RC and give it a try.

Judging by the angle/length, the 2005 66RC would be the closest match with the 2005 888 (8") forks.

That should make the headangles somewhat similar to what I'm used to.

True, but in that case you could get a 06 888 and have around the same head angle and an extra inch still. Maybe you want the 06 66 for the lower height, steeper angles, and that "sc feel"?
