This thread needs a 'pot-stirrer' to get interesting.

It's funny to see a bunch of mountain-bikers to go all gaga over golf (one of the most boring sports to watch after chess).

golf is in no way awesome. i guess it could be fun to play if you are into it, but i wouldn't watch golf unless the paint drying channel was down

I bet nike is loving the free advertising they get by posting this stuff up on internet video sites. They don't even have to pay for hosting or bandwidth and thousands of people see it.

I love golf, and like to watch it too, but I fully understand why a lot of people find it boring to watch - even people who play themselves. Unfortunately, you can't watch for a half hour or you miss the point. Golf is not a matter of making one shot at a time, it is a round played over 18 holes so, for the same reason that watching a hockey game is so much better if you see the whole thing rather than just the 3rd period, you really have to both love watching it and have the time to burn to enjoy watching it on tv. And, frankly, that is time I'd rather spend doing other things.

As for playng the game of golf, don't get me started. Most people I know who "hate" it have never really played. Pitch n putt doesn't count. One round at your buddy's stag with a 12-pack doesn't count - that isn't golf either. Everyone I do know who decides to give it a chance, however, realizes the game for what it is: one of the most challenging games you'll ever try to master, and even the masters feel humbled on a daily basis. It may look lame on tv, but I can guarantee that any hater would be hooked the first time they drive one straight up the middle or drop a long putt for birdie. Made even more satisfying by the fact that it's not easy to do either of those things.

One last thing about Tiger and the modern game before everyone chirps up about old fat guys as golfers: Tiger is one of the best athletes of our generation. Yes - athletes. He is incredibly strong (I think he benches almost 300 lbs) and some of the shots he makes require a blend of strength, timing and coordination that most other pros couldn't dream of.
