EI - What do I need to know?

I might need to go onto EI soon. I've never been on it before, so what do I need to know?

I was out of work for two weeks with no pay before they started paying me. You can still work part time making up to 77 bucks a week and it wont be cut from your EI checks. But make sure you claim everything.

@Lil Minxy: That amount that you can earn while on EI is different for everyone. For instance I am allowed to make about $81.00 every week.

@ Axis: Also, be sure to have patience. The mandatory waiting period is anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, during that time you don't get any money. I have been on it for a while now, and while you're on it you have to be looking for work, and recording your search. If you're looking to find a way into a new field, then this is good time to get into one of the programs that help you find out what kind of career is good for you. You can ask your case manager about this. Look at me for example, I am working on getting EI to pay for my schooling, and I am almost there.

be prepared. EI NEVER takes off enough tax. you will owe tax next year for sure.
