building on burnaby mountain

I was just flipping through my burnaby now and read an article on how they are going to start building townhouses and widening the roads and a bunch of other crap. Does anyone know if all of this will end up affecting the trails or the trail heads at all.

it's gonna kill most of the trails, but I've heard something about them allowing trails to be built on the North side of the mountain.

ONCE again, i know the developers quite well and they are very good guys. you'd have to blame the city if anyone, for allowing this to happen (zoning etc etc)

can't really blame the developers for trying to make a buck

isnt the north side mostly to steep for building? at horizons theres a fence to keep people from going down the north side because its just straight up and down!

there's actually an old boy scouts hiking trail down the north side.
it ends up at the velodrome.

most of the northside would be great for trails, kinda steep, but nothing too nutty. -i personally doubt they will open the north side to trailbuilding though.

That UniverCity thing will only kill upper Mels, if I remember correct. And even then not for quite some time.

Here's a Bby Mtn trail map: http://www.math.sfu.ca/mast/people/f...of/bmbcbig.gif

Then check out the UniverCity overview here: http://www.univercity.ca/overview.html

I would wager that it will take a long time for any of the land that Mel's is on to become townhomes. It's supposedly gonna take 7 to 10 years to build just the UniverCity Highlands section (in the top-right corner of the overview map).
