so i said i wouldnt ask but....math help please

i just keep making dumb mistakes so could someone show me how to slove this using quadratic formula 3X^2+7x+8=5X^2+12x+1. so i simplyify it all together and manage to screw it all up and i keep getting negatives in the radical sign and all sorts of weird stuff. the quadratic formula, for those who have forgoten is
-b/------------ <--- thats a square root sign leet style
/ b^2-4ac
---------------- <----- divided by. and ^is infront of an exponent.x^2
2a x squared

i hope that makes sense even if u dont get it all any help is appreciated

Ok, wow your post is screwed up.

[-b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a is the quadratic formula

You want to start it by setting the right side = 0.

You have -2x^2 - 5x + 7 = 0

So a = -2, b = -5, c = 7

Plugging into the quad formula you get
5 +/- sqrt (25 + 56) / (-4) 25 + 56 = 81. sqrt(81) = 9

so 5 +/- 9 all over -4

gives you -14 / 4 and -4 / -4 (or 1)

3x^2 + 7x + 8 = 5x^2 + 12x + 1
Rearrage to 0= 2x^2 + 5x - 7.
a = 2
b = 5
c = -7
-5+-9
------
4

So umm, x = 1, x = -14/4 ?

I'm pretty tired, might wanna check that.

ok thank u keefer, and good job. as for glib u did wut i did and somehow made a 2 when tis supose to be -2 and c 7 when its -7. just moved things to the wrong side and made x negative. and yes my post was screwed up but meh u seemed to understand it somehow. to bad they all arent that easy. im getting a little more each one i do though. #1 fan u also left out a negative but only at the end. its -7/2 but thts minor. that y i hate this its so easy to make a tiny mistake

Keefer and I have the same answer. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' side to arrange things on.

This is a very short calculation, and thus easy to check for a simple mistake. Just be glad it's not complicated.

i dunno, i kept getting -2 and -7 as a and c. then when multiplied by -4 so i was getting 25-56 uner the square root which is undifined. and i thought thats wut u had. maybe i saw wrong or u edited it. but it doesnt matter. basically i have a test tommorow im trying to learn and practise the basics even though this is section 1 of 5 sections covered on the test, section 5 still uses quadratic formula but with tons of other junk. so basically im screwed. and this is the first time in my life ive ever had to actually try and pass. and i dont like it usally i do jack shit and get 65 and im happy and the last like 4 quizes ive got like 1 out of ten and shit, so its getting bad. i hope its just getting harder and im not getting dumber.

Me thinks you should aim a little higher... it's better to aim for the stars and miss than to aim for the gutter and hit it

that totally depends. If you have no university/college future ahead of you, the diploma is all that counts. A pass is a pass, 49.8% and 100% are both passes and get you the same place down the retard road.
