Cypress Trail Issues

so i rode cypress for the first time in a few months and someone really needs to talk some sense into west van. on many of the trails there are serious maintanence problems. many sections are beyond fun/safe. i give cypress one more year without maitenance and it will be beyond repair.

now i LOVE cypress because of there being no stunts and ladders. everything is completly old school technical and i love it. however there are serious drainage issues on most of the trails especially Roach Hit and Roach Clip. There are many problems with trail braiding on much of the trails especially on the steeper sections such as the ones on Wild Cherry. the steep parts get skidded out to 3 foot deep ruts, become too difficult and people ride around them starting the same problem over again. these ruts then become creeks and make make erosion problems even worse. there are a few sections that have gone beyond just problems and have become dangerous sections that i can't see even the best technical riders cleaning it.

can the west van council not see this? Can they not see we want to help? do they think if they just ignore us mountain bikers, we will just go away? they already have exclusion of liabilty posters at the start of all the trails, how can it hurt to let people make the trails LESS dangerous while also helping nature by stopping erosion and braiding. now im not sure on where NSMBA stands with any agreements with DWV but as far as i know they are not interested in talking. maybe we need to start some kind of report showing before and after of fixing a trail using no ladders.

i just dont want to lose such awesome natural technical riding. i have never had more fun than riding on cypress

In November of 1998, IMBA and NSMBA Sponsored a trail day on Coiler.

http://www.imba.com/tcc/1998/canada.html

In the summer of 1999, a young rider fell on Roach Hit and was seriouly injured. His father complained to West Vancouver Council who then decided to remove all stunts from Cypress.

Following this incident NSMBA was told by West Vancouver Parks that we were no longer permitted to work on the trails.

If the ridership would like to see this change, what we need from YOU are volunteers for this effort. This volunteer will contact West Vancouver on behalf of the NSMBA and the riders to petition to be allowed to do maintenance on the trails. This volunteer should get a list of riders and where they live as well as pictures of the erosion that is occuring on these trails.

I would suggest starting with Sex Boy. It's close to the road and pretty eroded.

Who would like to be this volunteer?

someone is doing stuff on the top of Coiler too.

Good to see, so long as it doesn't get much negative attention from tax paying west van citizens they probably won't tear anything down.

All these complaints about rutting and still no volunteers? I ride on Cypress all the time. All the trails are badly rutted and in desperate need of maintenance/repair.

If no one else will volunteer then I will. Sharon, PM me so we can start a dialog on what needs to be done.

Thanks!

We were there on Saturday and an older man was taking pictures of us at the top of 21st St. West Van is such a wierd place. I really enjoy Cypress. I t would be so great if the NSMBA could persuade WV to have trail days.

Thanks for stepping up echo

FYI - rode Pre-reap and Reaper today. Someone's building structures on the old Reaper line. They're crap ... ladders with alder for stringers, pinner cedar for rungs, rotten rungs, roundwood for rungs. Crap trailwork (ie. no trail work). The usual crap.
