Question Chain Problem

I've got a little problem going on in the old drivetrain. I just put on a new tire, and its a bit wider than my old tire. If I go through a really rough section fast, my chain bounces down and can get stuck rubbing between the side knobbies on the tire and the chainstay.
Some times I can just give the pedals a little tap when I hear it start to suck in there, and it pulls the chain out, but sometimes it can get really jammed and pull the chain off the front ring.
Anybody else ever have this issue? Its A 24X2.6" specialized tire, on a brodie holeshot. Apparently this is the perfect spacing for sucking a chain into, because the old 2.7 highroller was a bit smaller and didn't have this problem.

Any cheap fixes out there to keep the chain out? I don't want to run a chainguide, I just have an envy inner E ring on right now.

well if you lose the front deraileur ( if you have one ) it helps fit a bigger tire in the back on some frames, ( like on my trl for eg, I can run a 26 x 2.8 with no front deraileur ) with one I'd probably be stuck with a 2.5ish tire to make room for the chainline when using the granny ring.

otherwise you might need a chain guide, or have to trim the knobs on the tire to clear the chain line.
I don't know, it's not really my area of expertise.

If it doesnt mess up yer chain line too much try spacing the BB away from the frame, a spacer might be a couple of bucks

also make sure yer rim is properly tensioned and the rim hasnt pulled towards the drive side chainstay

The way I solved my problem was by "adjusting" my rear cassette. I took the first two (i.e. smallest gears) and put them at the back of the cassette. Then I adjusted the Hi/Lo limits on the D. to the new spacing. It of course means I only have 6 gears avail. (I run an 8 speed cassette) but on a DH rig who the hell cares. I also run the Envy set up with a granny (requires manual changing of chain). No more chain clearance problems!

Yeah the chainline is fine, there is lots of clearance normally, but when things get rough the chain can bounce from side to side, and then it gets sucked down. It happens in any gear. I was wondering more about some guard that might keep the chain out from that space. Thanks for the ideas.

there used to be something for about 10$ called a "sharks fin" that you stuck to the chainstay with macktack and some zap straps and it had a plastic fin that roughly followed the curve of the rim/tire which kept the chain from sucking between the tire & chainstay maybe redshreds has one go ask tony

u might redish your wheel slightly over to the nondrive side if u have room to spare...

this will add a touch more room for the chain to bounce back outa that space...

i ended up having to do this to my BIGHIT 2 years ago from the exact same problem.

Thats exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't know if something like that existed. I'll pick one up. thanks guys. I was thinking of dishing the wheel to the non-drive side but I don't have very much space to spare..

You gotta be way old ,i'm thinking those were the shit in like 80 something

you could dish the wheel away or a spacer on the BB,the front D as a chain guide is also a good idea

use the sticky macktack to mount it but also some small plastic zap straps
