A different Jetta question

I too am to lazy to sign up on another forum to have one question answered.

My dillema is this, I currently have a `92 Jetta, and i`m trying to improve the sound output. Everything is cool, I`ve changed everything except for the rear speakers. I still have the original little 4" jobs, and I`m having trouble fitting larger ones. I`m looking at 6.5`s or 6 by 9`s, nothing huge. Main problem-it`s all metal, what do I have to do, cut the metal (not really what I want to do), or is there another way?????

I`ve spent some time looking at various sites and just got tired of searching, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks all

i am not sure if the exact setup in the back of your Jetta, but i have mounted 6x9s underneath the metal and left the hole only 4" in diameter. i just drilled four screw holes and...

aesthetically it is indistuingishable once you get the screen on there.

sound was FINE. i mean you certainly cannot tell a diff. base can easily sneak around corners and the tweaters were dead center anyway

If your Jetta has the same door cards as my 16v GTi you can remove the 4" hole and attach a speaker directly to the faceplate which is 5 1/4" which is a pretty good improvement from 4"s.

don't bother with upgrading the rear speakers. get an amp (or two, run your main speakers as well off amp power, not head unit power) and a sub before you do that...

...........sure, some day, but as I see it, I`m still left with the problem of rear speaker placement.

I`m not looking for major bass......just a significant improvement over the crap that I have now.

If you can I would reccomend cutting the metal with a dremel or something and doing it right.

just upgrade your rear speakers, i have a 89 jetta and i just upgraded the front and rear corner speakers to high end alpine ones and it sounds great. I put in amp and subs and the bass u lose from the speakers comes out in the subs, and the amp makes a huge difference int he speaker sound aswell

Thanks for the replies guys, I decided to just stick with small speakers (JBL`s) that will fit with no problems.

Maybe I`ll go the sub route in the near future for that little extra sound.

there is little tabs on the far side of the speaker vent that pop off and a screw is under them, then the speakers jsut get screwed out. It's a tight squeeze to do it all but its not that hard.
