X Type BB Compatability
Just had a youth ask me about the Race Face X Type BB. Someone gave him a BB and he wants to know if he can make it work with a 3pc type spindle and cranks. You know butcher engineer.
I don't know enough about this so need info. Anyone? Skunkworks? |

Well the bearing diameter of the X type BBs is 22.2 mm right? This is the same as Primo BMX cranks, however the spindle will likely be too short. So no, I don't think it will work.

I figured as much. But it's always good to check with the board as it might have been done.

No the spindle for x-type is 24mm, as is hollowtech II. he could use a spacer, but that's pretty silly, or get an axle made. I'd imagine there are spindles out there long enough for the task, normally those things are extra long anyway and profile makes long ones for dh bikes and stuff. IIRC there is an x-typeish bb that is 22, or 22.2mm, but it may be something like 25.4.
in short: doable but somewhat involved. I'd be stoked to see it work.
