Interbike 2006 **road** photos

More photos of the SRAM 10-speed road group...

Anyone want to guess how these levers work? Shimano has a patent on tilting the large lever sideways to pull cable to a larger cog, so they can't do that. My guess is the small paddle pulls cable, and pushing the top of the lever in (or tilting the whole big lever forwards) releases tension.

The road rear derailleur looks inspired by the X0.

I wonder if that derailleur can handle an 11-34 spread? Much like the Shimano 105, it looks like it uses a lot more metal where it counts.

That derraileiur looks a little beefy for a road bike.

i read in velo news that a short shift with the small paddle downshifts, and a long push with the same lever upshifts. the brake lever is fixed, like campy. i like the flat tops, too..

I used to have a beautiful 17lb Devinci Apogee, but now I'm riding an entry level Devinci Chicane - a 23lb hunk of tankness. It has a buttery smooth straight bladed aluminum fork. Can you say smooth?

I have not been on the road bike in a couple of months. No desire, since I'm not training anymore.... but, that SRAM stuff could convince me to go ridin' a whole bunch more. There's weekly time trial road races here in Kamloops. That interests me.

The chicane has a pretty good aluminum frame for a sora/tiagra bike... I was looking at a devinci 105 bike (the Silverstone?) when I bought mine, but couldn't pass up a great deal on the Specialized.

It's a 2005 Allez Elite, CF fork/seatpost, 105 with tektro brakes. I'm using crank bros. candy SL mountain pedals on it, I find they're a good medium-size of platform for road use.

photo taken shortly after purchase, $5 test-ride pedals still mounted:

Pezcycling has gone on a photographic orgy at Interbike. More titanium brakes, a zero gravity crankset, etc:

Not mine! Its pre-nice. It looks light, but actually quite the tank. The newer ones are pretty nice for a cheap bike.
