zimbabwe

i dont understand wahts going on...

from what ive read/heard the president declared himself president for life, is a commonwealth country, the second most prosperous african country in natural resources, and hes not shutting down media outlets. just making it so they dont have ahything to report with.

yet then i hear about a campaign AGAINST the poor and has driven the economy in to the ground? yet, he's meeting with Fidel Castro showing his support a few weeks ago...so a campaign against the poor and a commonwealth nation...yet he's meeting with socialist fidel castro??

im lost. i know nothing about this whole deal. fill me in

I was there in '89. Huge potential but like a lot of African countries Zimbabwe suffers from rampant corruption and tribalism. Plus throw in the fact that they fought a war with the white settlers, and you have a country with deep divisions. Mugabe rules by his ability to divide and conquer.

Mugabe seems to be going further and further off the deep end. I was there in the late 90s and he was just starting his 'land reclaiming' policies. Sad, it's such a beautiful place.

There are some international social policy setters from all different aspects who consider (and call) Africa the Dark Continent...I consider this Ethnocentrism (as it usually comes from Anglocentrists and associates) and perhaps excessive attention paid to the meanings of words or distinctions in their usage (ie Dark Continet has more than one meaning.) But, what I truly see (intrinsically and extraneously applying to both me and the subject) is Africa being set upon or set up as a new medium...a McLuhan verse on producing observation (empirisism) as veracity, and using this unquestioningly towards others who do not question via rhetorical metastasis (changing of the subject) while perpetually trying to satisfy the unsatisfiable telluric hedonism and eudamonics of the "new religion."
