Thumbs down Turners Bikes

I sure looks like Turner bikes (6-Pack and the 5 Spot) are kinda going in reverse in regards to suspension development. No more Horst link in '06. Might as well buy a Kona/Banshee/Transition/Trek and every other walking beam bike.

If you want a Horst link '05 6-Pack I would run out and get one fast (if there are any left).

I guess that they don't want to pay Specialized anymore.

The only Turner bike that is interesting to me is, and always has been, the DHR.

They were paying Ellsworth.

I really do not see what the big deal is. There are many great bikes using single pivot design.

Hopefully now the price will be dropped? There are nice single pivots out there (Appalache), but these Turners don't look any better than a Kona or Trek, etc. There's always Devinci with their Horst link all mountain bikes!

only in Canada. or has Devinci ponied up for the license in the States. Did Specialized not file the patent in Canada is that the deal? I'm waiting for more pics of the Real. That thing is awesome.

My understanding is that the patent does not apply in Canada that's why Devinci & Brodie can use the horst-link without paying specialized.

It wouldn't be that it doesn't apply. You only have a year after you disclose a patentable "thing" to file. patents only apply to the country you file in, so if it was not filed in Canada, and a year went by after disclosure, then it's too late, the design becomes public domain. I think Horst Leitner who was the original inventor, only filed in the US. Specialized bougth the patent later, and cannot file in any new countries, again as it is now public knowledge.

Yeah, I am very disapointed with the design change....I think between the FSR patent and the ICT patent...it just got too much.....

Wayne - rumour I heard is that the Magma/Guzzler will not be a part of the Devinci line for 06. Figured you might know better - is it true? If so why? According to the guy I talked with (he was riding a Guzzler at the time we met on a trail) they weren't selling. I've always wondered why Devinci doesn't do that well out here - they use Horst links, full seattubes, needle bearings on pivots, were the first (now copied) to use electronic equiptment to monitor bikes on trails for feedback on design (at least that was what a mag I recently read said), and best of all they are Canadian made (designed AND built - unlike some "Canadian" companies that use Asian factories).

As for Turner bikes - great bikes, well built and lighter than comparable frames - too bad about the Horst issue. Good warentee though - Daves a great guy. Perhaps, like Giant, they'll develop their own VPP type design.

No idea. I'm in Kamloops now and I only speak the boys at Steed about once a week via e-mail. I'm out of the loop (pardon the pun) with Devinci's, I'm working on something else.

I could see them not making them anymore. They are bloody sweet bikes, but they still don't sell well. Just one of those things I guess. Maybe they didn't have a sexy enough look or the build wasn't spot on. Who knows? The Wilson/Ollie etc sell like hotcakes at a hotcake sale though.
