if it is raining up there then most of the black trails will be closed down, and the ones that are open will be mighty slippery and/or crowded. personally I try to stay away from whistler when it is raining.

what is this sweep you speak of? you get do go down a run after cl;osing to "sweep" it and make sure there are no pipers down and everyone is off the trail?

sounds neat, would i talk to a liftee or find a patrol guy?

the patrolers call out for sweeps at the bottom of the chair and you just run over and get a pass - they assign the trails to sweep - this happens after the chair is closed (i think)

I've driven up from Vancouver to do just 1 run.
Priorities I'd guess.

yup GW , sweep is where riders ride down each and every trail on the mountain to make sure they are clear .
just before the lifts close , you will see a patroller calling out for sweepers near the base of the fitz chair . he will have a bunch of plastic cards on strings . those are the sweep cards describing each sweep . get there early , and you get the best pick . then the whole group heads up together after the lift has stopped loading public .
we do a quick briefing and while we don't want you to kamikaze down there and injure yourself ( and become a sweepee , rather than a sweeper ) it is a great opportunity to have just one run all to yourself to finish your day ; what could be better ? if you like , we encourage the buddy system , so you can do it with a friend .
if you see a patroller during the day , just ask him when sweep meets , and let him know that you are down for it , and he will be expecting you , ( but make sure you show ) .
before you leave vancouver , i guess you could check the web cam and see what it is like . saturday is supposed to be damp , but i don't think real rainy . just enough to keep the crowds and dust down .

beers at blacks . . . . .yer day is done
