Comes in long bar and short bar versions. You'll need the long bar to lock through frame & front wheel of any suspension mountain bike. They're $65 or so at Simon's bike shop on Robson. It weighs something like 8 or 9 pounds and is CNCed steel. Nice thick coating of rubber to prevent scratches.

But if you have a nice bike it won't stop thieves from stripping the parts off it. My XC bike is probably worth about $2k and I won't lock it unattended for any length of time in downtown. (More than 10-15 minutes)...

I've got some big fat chain with a giant padlock wrapped around a suppsorting pillar of my house. It would be easier to cut through my frame.

the best bike lock u can buy is to never leave your bike's side...

shy of that the second best option isnt found in any bike shop...

what u neeed to do is go to your local hardware/supply house and buy the bigggest/thickest Fn chain they have... perfeably one so thick they can't even cut it. (thats what i did)

then buy a equally BIG/thick lock...

while this route isnt cheap, its way better security then some of the bike shop locks they will try to sell you...

p.s. my bikes are locked to my homes HOT water tank... so anyone trying to steal my rides also has to figure out how to haul a 500lbs tank full of scaulding HOt water...

8-)

i'll never forget the look on the cashiers face @ Home hardware when she tried to lift the length of chain i bought...haahah priceless...

I bought the "fuguddabout" it lock. They claim only dimond saws, and plasma torches can cut it..
and with $3500 garentuee, its worth it to me.

I'm personally a fan of IFO's solution there. Probably what I'll end up doing, I just have to find myself a suitable imovable object to wrap the other half of the chain around.

The other problem is that I need something for when I am going somewhere and have my bike on the back of my car on the rack, and would like to be able to fill up with gas and not have to worry about my bike. I only say this becuase my rack takes less then 5 seconds to unload if you know what you're doing. So a lock would be nice to have, I'll probably end up investing in some kind of cable type lock....I just don't know how much of a fan I am of them, are they actually any safe? Or can you get it with bolt cutters.

That's why you just cut the soft aluminum frame. Done deal.

Don't leave your bike ANYWHERE.

Remeber too, that if you have a U-lock, theives can try to use a car jack. You have to fill in the U-lock. Apparently a car jack can torque open some u-locks.

Yeah I demonstrated it to one of my friends with his U-lock by jamming a ballpoint pen in it and opening it, needless to say he doesn't like U-locks anymore
