Restoring a Bike.

Okay so its not a mountain bike, its a BMX.

someone has offered me a Mongoose BMX with a bit of surface rust for 50$.

Since I've never done anything major mechanical before on a bike I was thinking that this might be a good bike to tear down and rebuild, maybe even strip the paint and re paint it.

it supposedly has a bit of surface rust but thats about all thats wrong with it.

any opinions or suggestions?

Hmm...depends on how much is wrong with it, but for $50, it's probably worth some fun.

Hell, I'll buy it for $50 if you don't want to

bmx's are great fun, low maintenance, and make you a much much smoother mtber

Sounds like it would be both fun, and a good learning experience. Best of all, if you fux something up real bad, then it's not a big deal!

Yea, BMX's are pretty simple compared to your average MTB, and surface rust is easy to remove.

ya, there way easier to maintain than a mountian bike, less parts (ex. deraillurs, cogs, forks, etc.)

i tried restoring a bmx before... but it was a painstaking job and it was taking up a big chunk of my free time so i sold it to a friend

it was scuffed up and half-painted...but i think he still has it

just polish and get new chain/headset/seat etc etc..
