most vans actually burn more fuel than a small truck, no matter if it has big meats. A minivan will almost always be automatic, and will usually have a fuel injected V6 of sorts. alot of small trucks have a 4 banger, or at the most a 6 cyl in there, along with a standard tranny.

If you live outside the city, a truck of sorts is almost necesary to get most things done. It's not every day, living in downtown vancouver that you need to take several loads of firewood from one place to another, or to do a run to the dump on the weekend.
Bike transportation? In the city, a hatchback with a bikerack might get you places, but in most small communities, access roads to recreational areas are just deactivated or extremely rough logging roads, not the paved roads to yuppie-ville that are on the north shore and surrounding recreation areas.

and by the way: you DO use petroleum products every day, no matter what. I'm sure I don't have to lecture you on what is made of petroleum byproducts and what is not..after all, you seem to be the self righteous type of new ager that buy's the grande low fat, decaffienated soy late from starbucks, then go's to rallies, protesting the poor trade practices with coffee growing countries whom we do business with.

I have no good pics, but my truck is a beast. '91 F-150 short box 4x4, with a v8. It has balls
I have 4 flood lights wired to on/off knobs in the dash...2 in the back and 2 up front. Next is a winch

droool, I really want a winch. Would be so nice, an extra security blanket for 4x4ing without the added hassel of a locker.

The only thing that is holding me back is $$$. I need to do some repairs before I buy a new "toy" for my truck.

by the way, nice truck!
Mine is bright red too

Lockers aren't that much of a hassle. I think its fun driving around town with a locker, I can get bent around like anything. Winches rock I wouldn't ever go 4byin without one. That and a spare tire are the two things that I think are mandatory.
