Chainguide question

what's the difference between running a cage or a roller on the top of a chainguide? I'm thinking less resistance with the roller?

levon is a n00b; standing by
you would think more resistance with a roller, as it is touching the chain maybe even pushing it down a bit, i think i would rather have a roller then a cage.
i had a cage it just kinda guides it, but the roller would actually put pressure on it i belive it would be better.
