Avid mechanicaldics brakes?

First off, do they only make one mechanical disc brake, or a few different models?

Also, does anyone ride these?

How do they brake... are they really that much better than all the other mechanical disc brakes?

I see some people prefer them over hydro's... why would this be?

thanks.

one model of mechanical ,2 models of hydro

I got em,I followed the instructions and they instaled easily/perfectly and have worked fine with no maintenance

they have the most power of the mechanicals ,as much as a hayes hydro IMO ,they instal as stated in the instructions and work flawlessly .They don't modulate (feel, they are a little bit on/off) like a hydro but the power is there and you don't have to mess with bleeding or buy expensive replacement hoses ... you just use plain old brake cable/housing

they might be a better choice for a 12 year old kid who has no mechaical experiance ,no money , owns 3 allen keys and has access to a claw hammer

Hey,
I've been riding avid mechs for about about two seasons now. I believe there is only one mechanical avid brake with various rotor sizes but I'm no 100% sure.

They are great IMO, decently priced, simple, great stopping power when set up properly and fairly adjustable. The red knobs on the caliper allow you to adjust the brake pad placement as well, which I've found quite useful.

I've got friends running Hayes and Avid hydros too. In comparison I find the hydros to be more powerful. The Avid Juicys also have great modulation.

All in all, I'd recommend the Avid Mechs in a heartbeat but if you're looking for a bit more power and got the extra cash, go for some Juicys

yea i ride 6" mech disc brakes. i love em great adjustablilty and easy to work with and brake very nicely

i have mine over hydros because i ride alot of djs and park and stuff, so its like the closest thing to the feelin of a good vbrake but with the performance of a disc...get em if u can, "breedo" on here i think he has em 8" mech on his banshee scream and there workin out for him as far as i know...but defnitley good brakes...

avid makes a hydro bling bling line called juicy, if u got cash get em...there 'badical'l

actualy I just checked and they do have a ball bearing 5 (which is a new entry level model) and the ball bearing 7 which is the one that has been around for a couple lof years and that is also the model we have been reffering to

no idea what the ballbearing 5 is like

No outboard pad adjuster - adjustment is via barrel adjuster?

The regular Avids work, and are inexpensive. Why would they make an inferior product?

cheaper price point for low end bikes ,don't forget its part of sram now not just avid and SRAM purchased avid to be able to provide an entire gruppo and they want to have a low end disc brake to sell to bike makers.

Wonder how it works?
