parents click here

so young kids, this one is for the old guys and gals

my baby is 3 weeks old now, and in like 5 weeks it is time for shots.

looking through the list of shit they want to pump her full of scares me. is this really all needed?

did any of you pick and choose or did you just go with what the doctor told you?

I don't want my daughter getting a bunch of shit that she doesn't need, but i also don't want to be known as the father of the only person in canada to get yellow fever

what did you do? what do i do?

i have read through books and mags, but they are all catering to advertisers.

I personally got the chiken pocks, mumps etc when I was a kid.

I lived through it.

I have immunized my daughters against things that would kill her, or had a very high risk of causing serious damage (menigitis etc.)

Other than that, I think that the body is best left alone

someone I know had there life saved because they got the immunization for the chicken pox. Apparently chicken pox and a flesh eating disease are closey related to each other, so when she got the chicken pox immunization she was saved from this flesh eating disease. That's not the whole story, but the nutshell (I don't know the whole story, so don't ask). Hope this helps!

my children are not immunized (and neither am i). i did a LOT of reading, and a LOT of research before i made this decision. part of what influenced me is the fact that although children are immunized, they still seem to get chicken pox/mumps/measles etc., which didn't really make sense to me. why compromise our own immune system?

also...there IS a risk, albeit low, of complications from the immunization shots. there is a child here in the tri cities that developed some strange disease (altho i can't recall the details) which the parent attributes to immunization (elephantitis?). there's also been some talk of linking crib death to immunizations, although not proven.

there's also the argument that if everyone else is immunized, how can my children be at risk? as technically there would be no way for them to get the disease. i did have to sign a form for my kids' school/daycare to say that if there was an outbreak i would have to keep my boys at home, which is not a problem for me.

i can recommend a book "the immunization decision" which i believe you can get from Alive books.

My mom didn't immunize me for all the reasons above. 24 years later, I have the healthiest immune system on the planet. I haven't had a cold in three years.
My mom immunized my little sister (pressure from doctors, etc).
She is a walking sick person, always has been.
Anecdotal, I know, but maybe thought you'd like to know.

i dont see how its healthy to inject someone with a little bit of a disease so the body can become immune to it.

i wish i never got immunized as a child. i had a ton of medical issues that i believe are directly related to immunizations and their effects.

Breast feeding is important for the immune system. Breast feed your kids and their immune system will be like 30 percent better to begin with.

A co-worker told me of a story he saw that says all of these new anti-bacterial cleaners/soaps are bad because with all of these germs being killed we are no longer being expsoed to some germs/bacteria and our immune systems are weaker because of it.

Like I said, story from someone else, can anyone confirm/deny? It makes sense to me though....

GW when I get home I'll have Elaine post a bunch of info for you.

Apart from the total randomness of the cancer. Trinity was never immunized, and she was as healthy as a horse. She was breast fed and when she could eat, she was fed natural vitamins and minerals. We gave her food at a young age, and she ate all natural, oragnic foods like it was going out of style!!

In fact I'll call Elaine right now.

And LG. I am 100% right behind you on this. Shots are useless. For the most part.

True. Only place they should be used is hospitals.

Personally, I was immunized against many things when I was young, and I get flu shots yearly (another can 'o worms there I know). When we stop immunizing, diseases recur. There was a smallpox outbreak a bit back if I remember right; everyone says 'oh hell, it's not around anymore, I don't need to be immunized' and it makes a return.

You don't think it makes sense to be injected with a weakened virus to let your body sh*tkick it and learn how to do so, so that it can do so if there's ever a need in the future?

Better safe than sorry?
