Evil Kona Van

Just saw a Kona Van parked at the corner of Mountain and ....(whats the name of the street that Hoskins turns into again - heck I live around here you'd think I could remember).

Anyways - it's all painted up with Kona, has the names Dan&somebody etc. My question is why are they parking in a no parking area for bikers? Unless they recently purchased a place up there (or perhaps owned something there all along and they just got the van?). Washington plates. If not either they are blind to the signs that lead into the area that say no parking. Perhaps they missed it - fine. But then the signs that say trails closed are still up (despite LSCR saying they are open again) and they must be ignoring those. Unless they learned they are open via here - in which case they know they cannot park there.

So either they have a legit reason for being there (ie. own a place there - despite having WA plates - possible but since I've never seen the van before and I ride Fromme 4-5days a week past that area they are parked - NOT LIKELY) or they are PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Felt like leaving them a note saying thanx for being an asshole and disregaurding our rules/laws here please don't visit again but then I decided...I could be wrong.

Anyways...just bitching and mentioning evil Kona reps in the area creating havoc.

The District of North Vancouver manages the trails on Fromme.

The LSCR manages the trails on Seymour.

When the LSCR states that their trails are open they are only speaking of THEIR trails.

Like I said - perhaps I'm mistaken. Perhaps they know somebody on the street. Perhaps they don't. If they don't they are parking illegally. Why does that matter - they are obviously related to the biking world (or they are just being paid to be a sponser for them) and it will (possibly) look bad for bikers. If you don't care about our image to the people who live in my neighborhood - fine, don't ride here please and don't read this thread anymore as it doesn't affect you.

I for one appreciate your observations the wwkayaker.

The district etc. doesn't have the resources to police these sorts of infractions, yet it is paramount to our continued access to our trails.

If bikers are breaking the rules that allow us to ride. Break their wheels.--they can get in trouble with the hiking crowd then instead.

Two ways to look at this:

1. Be ultra conservative and assume everyone with bike racks or similar parked on the street are there visiting (you need a pass to park there to visit - either that or maybe you just can't park even visiting - don't remember the rules).

2. Be paranoid and assume they aren't there legally and will make bikers look bad to the residence.

This van doesn't just have a sticker on it - the whole cube van is one giant logo. It's a cube van and if they ride they'd put the bikes inside instead of on a rack.

What I had hoped for from here was someone posting back saying one of the following:
a) Oh I know those guys and they are visiting so and so
b) Oh those guys need to be informed, they are unaware or are ignorant of the situations here
c) Something else practical here...

And yes, if you parked on that street WITHOUT proper access visiting said friend a) you will likely get ticketed b) you will likely make us look bad. True if you ARE allowed to park there to visit (again I suspect you can't actually) then you may still make us look bad. And yes, if you do park there someone like me may very well "talk about you on the internet". If I get pics of you in your bike gear pissing on someones hedge here I'll even post the damn picture in large living colour. I live here and ride here and with the current situation I want to keep the neighborhood happy(ish) with bikers so I can continue to ride here. Think of it as neighborhood watch!

they probably just figure that they won't have to pay the parking ticket - which is true

if you don't like what they're doing, send an email to Kona telling them what a bad image this gives them.

'mericans, pffft

I'm with ya wwwkayaker, its not a big thing but its the principal. I would never go to another country, park illegally, and ride closed trails

I would like to see an explanation from Kona on this one.

Whoever was driving that Van should be reprimanded. Our situation gets more sensitive by the day up here. Seems a little odd that those guys would be parking ilegally and riding closed trails....

and Jeremy( S. Hooligan), you know that this is a real situation, save the dumbass posts for things that don't involve us losing the trails that we all love.

sorry Kona, but a bad move is a bad move.

Maybe the locals will think the "Kona" van is selling coffee. Then coffee drinkers will get a bad rap. Anybody here drink coffee? D.
