Another shock question...

My friend has an old RC off a Bullit which is the same lenght for my bike but has a 2.25inch stroke instead of a 2inch stroke, is there anything that can be done so I could ride this shock. My frame is an 03 stinky.

if they're the same eye-to-eye, i wouldn't do it.

you could visually test there enough room on compression (bottom out), but it's kinda sketchy.

wouldn't be worth it to get teh stroke reduced... unless maybe it was brand new?

I know on some bikes like the heckler you can get more travel out of your ride if you go to the 2.25 stroke over the 2 inch. Id check with the spring off the shock to see how it will affect the bike

No, the heckler used to have a 7.875x2.00 to give it about 5" of travel, now the coil shocks for the heckler come standard 7.875x2.25 giving it 5.6" of travel. The shock just has a longer stroke.

I don't think there would be a problem with an extra 1/4 of stroke on the shock, but do what Rat says, take off the spring, mount the shock, and cycle the travel to make sure nothing hits.

I just replaced the stock R 6.75/1.75 on a Fluid frame with an RC 7.5/2.00. Fits and cycles fine. Gives me 6" and 5.5" travel options instead of 5" and 4.5". Basically turned a Fluid into a Six. Haven't ridden it yet, so I'll have to see what it does to the ride feel, geometry, but it doesn't appear to change things much.

I think it would work on a stinky. At full compression the rear triangle shouldn't come any closer to the seat stay. I think it just raises the BB. Only one way to find out. Take the spring off and cycle it through.

If the eye-to-eye is the same, but the stroke is longer...the bb height remains identical, but the shock has more travel, which is going to bring the rear triangle closer to the frame on full compression.

Geometry remains the same until you start mixing up the eye-to-eye lenghts, then you begin to see bb height and head angle changes.
