Vehicle trade in question.

I'm thinking about trading my truck in for either a civic or a golf because of the gas and the payments could be a little lower.

Just wondering if there's anything from your experience I should keep in mind before doing so.

I'm a year into the bank loan, 3 years left if you needed to know for advice purposes.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

New-used details??

Find out what your payout is on the loan. If it's more than what the vehicle is worth, you might have a problem. New vehicles depreciate faster than you pay for them in the first year.

Too bad, we just got rid of a Golf TDI

Its going to have to be used. I'd like new but no such luck.

also, not in the first year of the load. 14 months to be precise.

dont trade it in.. dealers said they could give me 1700 tops for my truck.. so i went and sold it for 3500 ...

I'd have to pay off at least another year for it to be worth selling privately.

Unless there is no other way to make it affordable for you DO NOT trade it in. Sell it privately.

I've been trying to get into a new vehicle myself for the last few months and have had nothing but bad news on trade in values.

Dealers will always only give you wholesale for your trade.

For example there are two or three truck exactly the same model, year and condition as mine in the truck traders. All listed for $20000 +\- 1000.

The best trade in offered by a dealer for my truck was $13500, and that was against sticker on the new vehicle. So here's Mr. Dealer going to make $4 to 5k on my truck and the same agin on the new one. NO SALE!

Needless to say, I'm still trying to sell my truck... Good luck to you. I love new vehicles, but hate all the shite you have to go through to buy them.
