Bike for riding in/around Nelson?
I'm lucky enough to be moving to Nelson (from the UK) quite soon and have been told that my trusty hardtail won't really cut it. I'm no freeride loon, but am working on it as best as my pussyness will allow.
I'm very tempted to get an '05 Norco Six as it should be pedalable (just) up the hills (assuming people don't generally just shuttle, which my belly would prefer) as well as being boingy enough for the fun bits. I suppose I'm after a heavy duty-ish all rounder with a reasonable bias to mad fro action that won't bankrupt me. Any other suggestions/help/pictures of kittens? Thanks. |

Steep difficult trails. ummmm Their intermediate trails are easily black diamond everywhere else. If your present bike has a decent front fork and disk brakes, it will do. Alot of the good trails in Nelson are accessed by pedaling up. ( everytime I go back to ride with friends I'm amazed, their so much fitter then me) So a hardtail will be perfect for starting out, untill you figure out where you fit in on the sictor meter

Thanks.
I've got a '02 Z1 FR up front, so that should be able to cope I suppose. I'm pretty low on the sictor scale at the moment (biggest drop of about 5'), but am hoping to up that with the greater opportunities Nelsonwill offer. Shame about the riding up/to trails. I've been doing so well at letting my old xc fitness decline. |

Hahaha oh you'll get fit or die trying....... Z1 good.... you'll do fine. There are trails you can shuttle, but they aren't the easiest. ie long drive. When are you moving there!!! tons of snow coming soon..... I hope you ski/snowboard, or do hockey, cause Nelson can be boreing in the winter....

Moving out at the end of February, but visiting mid-December as well.
I'll have to brush up of my snowboarding I suppose. And hit the gym it seems (not sure how that'll gel with *cough* the other hobby )When does riding season start again? Duke - May? That's a hell of a long time.(as for my name, well, I'm just your average sister-lovin', kayak trip ruinin' Alabammy inbred. From, erm, London). Last edited by Bubba; 11-22-2004 at 05:34 PM. |

![]() If you do a search or at least just go and look at all the manufacturers sites.....there are tons of bikes out there that fit in the same category as the Norco Six.....for pretty close prices too. |

Guess my snowboarding skills will get a lot better then.
Do you know when the riding season ends? If you say June I may well cry. I suppose I'll have a nose around and se what's about/cheap when I'm over at Xmas. |

I think my wife will be pleased to hear that.
Does ' ' mean yes? Or does it mean 'dumbfuck Brit - it ends on May 2nd'?![]() I'll have a pre-emptive weep just in case. Last edited by Bubba; 11-23-2004 at 12:46 AM. |

good choice on town.
norco six would be an awesome bike, specialized sx with a 5-6 inch fork, banshee chapperal, kona stinky. any bike you think would fell comfortable climbing, steeps, jumps and speed. but now I want to go ride my bike, thanks guy.

There are some trails still open now. The Norco 6 is a fine bike, for our terrain. Good choice on town, you'll love it !

Cheers all. I've heard nothing but great things about Nelson - starting to get pretty excited (yet pretty daunted by the prospect of the riding - I am a big pussy after all).
Nice to hear I should be able to get some riding done in April. Two months off the bike would drive me nuts. Still, I'm really going to have to get fit to be able to ride a 40lb monster up them thar hills. |
