North Shore bike park?

Vancouver Sun, Wed, 18th, 2004

Mountain Bikers to hear report on establishing trail area.

West Vancouver: Mountain bikers should hear this weekend at the North Shore Credit Union World Mountain Bike Conference how the municipality feels about the feasibility of a mountain bike park in West Vancouver.

The municipality does not have a formally recognized mountain bike trail area and says there are a variety of social, environmental and safety issues surrounding trails that have been built by mountain bikers on private and public property.

"We really need a plan that will support outdoor recreation as well as one that will work to protect the natural environment." Coun. Pam Goldsmith-Jones said.

"It's time to apply ourselves to this challenge, and a mountain bike park is part of the solution."

The mountain bike park feasibility study covers major issues, possible park sites, concept plans for a mountain bike park and environmental trail standards.

The district has studied mountain bike park areas at the Capital Regional District's Hartland Park and Whistler.

Prelininary findings from the study will be presented Aug. 18 to 20.

"We really need a plan that will support outdoor recreation as well as one that will work to protect the natural environment." Coun. Pam Goldsmith-Jones said, while approving a plan that will see 2,000 hectares logged for the addition of a multitude of ridiculously priced luxurious 7,000 square foot view homes.

Cypress is more likely than Seymour, I think more of Seymour is within provincial park boundaries

they are using the term bike park in reference to designating a trail system that will be sanctioned by west van district which would be build and maintained to certain standards. not a lift accessed park.
cypress does have lift accessed mountain biking in their future plans though.... wooptydoo.

hmmm... this could just be another way of saying that they're gonna ban bikes on most trails and corral us all into some crappy bike zone

I don't think that will happen (I hope not anyways). I think this week's conferences are really going to show the mass popularity of mountain biking today. As soon as the districts realize they can somehow profit from it, I think it will open up all sorts of possibilities.

Yah bunnytron, west van has a little set up at the conference showing some picts of existing trails and talking about how they are planning on fixing them up. So i heard seymour talking about the idea of a lift access, but from the RUMORS from about how cypress is gonna have it next year
