What dose riding mean to you?

What dose riding mean to you?

As I sit here, I ponder what riding means to me. Is it just a hobby for most of us or is it more? I know for me it is a way of life. I will ride at every second I get. Whether it is a quick rip up the street before hockey or a 6 hour urban or dj session. Being injured has given me a lot of time to think about this. Just tonight I went down stairs and sat on my bike just to hear the crisp sound of the cassette clicking witch brought a tear to my eye. Some may argue I am a pansy and I should suck it up, I just cant live with out my bike. Sure I may not be the best rider but I live for the feeling of freedom and happiness it gives me. Today the doctor told me I was out for another 4-6 weeks. It hurt. Just cant think of any thing to do whit my time. I just want to ride no matter what. I had to take my tubes and cut them up and than dismantle my bike to keep my self off of it. I can

Broken bones suck.

I've yet to be physically down for more than a couple of weeks, but I've been bikeless for months at a time over the years. What you're going thru is totally normal. You have something that you are obviously passionate about (whether you are good or suck, you have the passion) but you cannot participate in at all. It's a harsh blow no matter the scenario surrounding it.
I've learned to take the downtime and find out what else there is about my life that is nearly as important to me and spend more time around that.
Once the time comes that you are 'good to go', you will have a brand new appreciation of your time on the bike.

As for myself, I've learned that my life is based around my riding...as opposed to my riding being based around my life. It's a conscious effort that most people are not quite willing to take. My life wouldn't end if I couldn't ride a bike again. It would definitely be different, as I would have huge void to fill.
You know what? I'm putting those thoughts on a shelf and I'll deal with them if that time ever arrives. Until then, I ride.

yeah not riding sucks. yeah my life jsut happens to revolve arround riding. i mean it would be easy to find somehing else to but nothing you can do with a broken foot is like riding.

thats my situation too. I was bikeless for 4 months a year or two ago and i was itching to ride to bad i took my dads cross country bike to Oak dirtjumps and smoked my face and cracked a brand new helmet
it was all worth it to be out jumpin (sketchy maybe, but jumping) although my parents thought differently.

Riding is great but I could live without it if I had to. I do loves me bike though

i just got kicked out of my house for not letting my parents put my race bike in a wooden shed with a chicken wire roof unprotected. so i'm living right at the bottom of seymour now. when i'm not biking i just sit here thinking about when i'm going to go biking again
