black and white scans?
I was wondering if any of you guys that shoot alot of photos have anything to say about the scan quality of black and white negatives from a dedicated slide and neg scanner like the Minolta scan dual iv.
the reason I ask this is that I've heard that film scanners usually do a shite job of black and white negs, even with a optimal setup. i shoot like 85% black and white and I always get kind of annoyed when your black and white scans don't look nearly as good as the prints. I know they will never look as good but they are usually just horrible from my experience with cheaper scanners. i will still probably use a good flatbed for scanning prints, but for my zine and everything I don't want to make 8x10's of every shot that I think I might use. so far I've been just doing that and using a good flatbed scanner for black and white prints and getting all the slides done by someone else. anyways. thanks. examples would be nice. |

i have experience with polaroid film scanners and scanning black and white. the scanners are able to do 16-bit RAW format so the quality is pretty good. i haven't used them in a while or on anything i'm proud of so i have no examples. i should have some within a few weeks as i will be borrowing an F100 for some biking shots.
