The only problem I have had is that it got to much dust in it. but that was easy enough to fix. |

the issue doesnt just lay in the hands of a browser change. your mta is also the big cuprit if you use oe or outlook.
the best way to avoid issues such as viruses, worms, etc...keep windows updated, keep adaware updated, keep your avs' definitions updated, and dont use an email client or web browser that is integrated into your system. a mozilla browser (firefox for example) coupled with thunderbird for email and you will be much better off. |

NOTE: As of January 15, 2003, due to a decreased rate of submissions, Symantec Security Response has downgraded this threat from a Category 4 to a Category 2. Symantec has not seen any significant increase in activity due to the re-activation of the emailing routine after its initial 10-day sleep period. W32.Nimda.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that uses multiple methods to spread itself. The name of the virus came from the reversed spelling of "admin." This worm: * Sends itself by email * Searches for open network shares * Attempts to copy itself to unpatched or already vulnerable Microsoft IIS web servers * Is a virus infecting both local files and files on remote network shares. The worm uses the Unicode Web Traversal exploit. A patch for computers running Windows NT 4.0 Service Packs 5 and 6a or Windows 2000 Gold or Service Pack 1, as well as information regarding this exploit can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms00-078.asp. When the worm arrives by email, it uses a MIME exploit allowing the threat to be executed by reading or previewing the file. Information and a patch for this exploit can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...n/MS01-020.asp If you visit a compromised Web server, you will be prompted to download a .eml (Outlook Express) email file, which contains the worm as an attachment. You can disable "File Download" in your Internet Explorer Internet Security Zones to prevent this compromise. Also, the worm will create open network shares on the infected computer, allowing access to the system. During this process, the worm creates the guest account with Administrator privileges. Removal Tool Symantec Security Response has posted a tool to remove infections that W32.Nimda.A@mm causes. |

In all reality, using Firefox will not alleviate viruses, it will however get rid of all the holes in IE. I am not saying that Mozilla is perfect, on the 8th they found a Mozilla exploit....and on the 9th Mozilla released a new version of Firefox, where there are a few known exploits for IE and Microsoft has still not put out a final release patch for it, weeks after the vulnerability was found. I would stay away from IE, just use it for the needed programs, but make sure to have all windows/office updates installed and check back often to make sure you are up to date, and your firewall is active.
Get a good virus scanner, AVG is all right, I have not liked the last few builds, at the moment I am really liking nod32, but there are lots of other programs out there that will do a good job of protecting your system w/out the bloat and just overall system control of Norton or MacAfee. Those two would be my last two choices. Also you need to know for sure that you are running a firewall, Sygate personal firewall is a great one and its free to download, while yes it may take a bit to get it configured, once you do it runs pretty silently. A hardware firewall is the best way to go, I personally have both set up. The Hardware blocks access to my comp and the software lets me know if a program is trying to access the Internet. You also will need to get rid of spy ware, there are multiple programs for this, the biggies are Spybot S&D and Ad aware. Both are very good, and it is good to run at least one of them. One of the features I like with Spybot is the immunize feature, it actively looks for spy ware and blocks it. There is a new program called spywareblaster that is supposed to stop the spy ware before infection opposed to scanning for it after it gets installed. I have not used this product yet |

I have been very fotunate not to have any virus's for a long time Whore boy. I download several cd's a day, tons of movies, apps.etc. The one thing YOU MUST EACH TIME AFTER A D/LOAD IS TO SCAN IT WITH YOU ANTI VIRUS BEFORE OPENING. Also try d/loading 2003 norton pro its worked wonders for my email acount with Telus. It always deletes any email that is infected before I can do something foulish as to open it. Also if you have Telus get the spam blocker going, it will stop alot of junk coming in. Run a few diffrent spyware killers because they dont always catch everything.
