the best bike insurance thread ever!

sorry, with all the bike insurance threads, i was worried mine might get overlooked...javascript:smilie('')

i just read through many of the insurance threads, but i couldn't find an answer to my question:

can i get insurance for my bike WITHOUT getting home insurance?

thanks...any info/leads would be greatly appreciated.

because this is a specific topic that was not being addressed, and because i don't think it's a crime to start new threads.

i dont think it matters how much the bike is worth. you insure it for a set amount and pay accordingly. you could insure a 1200 bike for 5000 and just pay more... (i think)

Most places will not insure the bike by itself.....and if the bike is worth over $1000...it MUST be insured in a seperate "rider" along with a home or renters or contents insurance plan. Most basic plans will only be covering bicycles for $500- $1000 coverage.
The minimum home/renter plan will cost you about $200-250 a yr and the bike insurance will cost from $3 to $5 per one hundred of insured value on top of the basic plan......and it can usually be financed over the 12mth period

Best idea yet. Getting insurance advice from the majority of the 14 and 15 year olds on this board is like asking your dog how your breath is.

What would we pay for insurance on the dog against rollin in poop?
I think I'd pay $2mth...so $24 a yr...with say, a $10 deductable....if the dog rolls in shit....you take it in for a bath on your insurance policy

Call your insuraces company. My company coveres the total contents of my condo. They don't require me to have a seporate rider for my bikes regarless of the the value.

Add yes I asked them specifically and checked my policy. I do have a decutable. I think it's something like 200 dollars.

Negative.

People would insure cheapo bikes for 5K, and they'd ironically get pinched in a month and then want the 5K payout.

Insure your bike for it's replacement value...and be prepared to prove that it's worth 5k, not 5 hundred.
