Blown Shock, what to do?

So. I blew the fox rc on my scream on the weekend. It ran good for a year or so, but now it blew half way down a regular dh run. So i'm stuck on what to do. These are the options i'v thought of.

Get the R.C rebuilt. Pro's
Cheapest option.
Cons.
may just blow again when it returns so i'll be out 100 or so and be in the same situation again.
May take a while.

Get the R.C rebuilt with the PUSH industry's kit.
Pro's
is supposed to take the shock up to the level of 5th's etc. and is tuned for style, weight, frame.
Con's
unprooven
cost $250 or so.

Get a new shock. (swinger or avy)
Pro's
I get a new shock.
dont have to worr'y about blowing it.
impoved performance.
Con's
Price.
meaning i would have to earn the $$ which may take a while.

So tell my what ya think. and if any one has a shock that will fit my scream for sale post up or pm me PLEASE! ok thanks alot

I would get it rebuilt. There is no reason why it ought to blow again soon. There will also be a repair warranty, I imagine. You may want another as a spare, though, because turnaround is not quick from what people have told me. Trident can turn around a 5th element in a couple of days, should you ever need one of those done. Hint Hint.

Re: Blown Shock, what to do?

Just get it rebuilt. It will be just like new.

For a little more than the price of a new 5th or swinger, you could sell your Banshee frame and buy a 2004 Scream with a 5th element.

it would be nice to know what year your shock is?the old valving was a big problem and i "believe" the new valving is a big improvement, which could be your answer.if it already has the bighit valving(i hate that term for some reason) then i would consider the push route.i loved my fox rc and had zero issues with it even though it had the "old" valving.i also had alot of hours on it in the +2 years i had it.

While were on the topic, how much does a rebuild cost? I was told it would be like $200 (I'm having a Fox Vanilla rebuilt)

All shocks blow.

I've seen just as many 5th's and Swingers blow as I have Fox RC's.

There is a misconception that lots of Fox's blow, which isn't the case. The number of Fox Shocks on bikes compared to anything else is staggering...so when you have that many out there, the failure rate you hear about seems a tad silly at first glance, but when you look at the size of the sample, it isn't out of the ordinary.

Shocks have a very difficult job to do on bikes and get pushed hard. They do need maintenance like anything else...they just let you know when! (sometimes by turning into a springboard just to keep you honest)

The prices on the PUSH website would be US.

....or you could replace the RC with a DHX - supposedly out by about July, but who knows how much that'll cost. I'm geussing about the same as a 5th or Swinger.

Right now I'm looking at either getting my RC "Pushed" or waiting for the DHX - leaning towards the Push Race rebuild though. That way I can actually ride a decent shock this season!

Im getting the full race tune

there is a guy in chilliwack who does somthing similar to push but not as extensive. he only charges 150 canadian.

Unfortunatly I can only compare it to other Fox shocks as I havn't put any real saddle time in on a progressive or manitiou.
