I am just wondering what the members of the board think is the best bike that can be used for both DH and FR. DH is quite a different animal in itself, but is there a bike that will allow you to do both? or is it just so different that two separate bikes are required.
By the way this question came up cause I just finished building up my Cove G-spot and I was thinking of trying the Whistler Park this summer, but don't know if the bike would be suitable. I am guess the rear travel wouldn't be enough. But let me know what you think. |

no theres a lot of dh/fr bikes out there, big hits, vps, bullets, etc. the cove g spot should be an awesome bike for whistler, you dont need a huge hucker for whistler imo something with smaller travel will do just fine.

your G-spot will be fine at whistler...
in fact Whistler is best on a short travel frame...u can rip all day and not get tired from lugging the BIG PIG around... Enduro SX such as this: http://idriders.com/riders/aaron/Furious1.jpg is the ultimate Whistler bike if u ask me....

I have learned basically one thing in the last couple of years: it depends on how fast you want to go. You can ride anything anywhere, but if you want to go faster, you need a proper DH bike. I started racing a couple of years ago with a Stinky (5" travel and a Super T), and it got scary squirrelly once I got to speed. Do you really want to rip at Whistler or just ride? Clown shoes, for one, doesn't require great speed!

Doesn't the G-Spot have 7" travel? Is another inch going to make that much more of a difference? That's like |___________| that much more give. Doesn't seem worth the upgrade.

I have 03 Super T up front and Vanilla RL on the back....Don't think I am gonna be ripping down Whistler since it would be my first time, but I would like to go more often and see if the myths are true.

The G-spot actually had 6 inches of travel on the back and I think I might need a new shock just to make it more comfortable for both FR and DH or is the Vanilla RL good enought for my purposes

I'm in the same boat, I have a .243 with a 6" Zocchi Drop Off. SO I guess that I could do most of Whistler on it, after I get the new wheels built, and get some discs. BUT, I still want to rip a dually, and I'm having a hella time figuring that out. As it is I would look into these(Mid to Long Travel):
Norco Shore, Devinci Wilson, Cannondale Gemini 1000, Giant AC1, Specialized, Enduro SX, Big Hit, Kona Stinky Dee, Banshee Chapparal, Scream. Honestly there is a lot of choice out there, and you're gonna have to see what fits YOU the best.
