Tire Options for Sasquatch

ok, everyone knows that norco's shore hardtails from 2001 to 2003 had no tire clearance. the website says it's good for 2.5" x 26". bullshit. this frame won't even take most 2.3s! i just removed a 2.25 mud tire that was rubbing! the obvious solution is to run a 24" rear, but i already have a tall 7" up front. slack enough to corner low enough for my tires to break loose on the pavement.

i know of two tires that can be run w/o rubbing: the kenda kinectic 2.3, and that cheap ass veerubber tire that was stock on later sasquatch builds, the Redbox DH 2.3, an IRC Kujo rippoff.

unfortunately, the stock kinetics that i ran until a week ago lacked proper mud clearance. lotsa chainstay missing. they don't rub, there's about 2mm of clearance on either side, and my doubletracks are always true.... what the hell was i supposed to do, run a 2.1??!

i want to run 26 x 2.5 hookworms. i'm hoping their large volume wil be accomodated because of the lack of tread anyone had luck with that on their sasquatch/torrent/rampage? or any tire for that matter?

as for my frame, the stays are pretty bad. i didn't notice until recently, as there was never any rubbing when my tires where clean of mud/snow/ice. i guess i just better pray my headtube goes before the stays.

thanks,
dylan

Well, they weren't spec'd with double track rims and those will make the footprint of the tire wider. As well, the size printed on the side of the tire doesn't always correspond with the actual width, so if your lbs has a bunch of tires you are interested in mounted on a narrower rim you could measure the exact width of those to get a better idea.

What exact year of frame do you have as the 2002's had better clearance than the others.

nope, but to be honest, i'm frustrated enough to just dedicate this bike to street riding. a 2.2 just doesn't have enough volume for hard ridding.... i just finished using a 2.25 (actually it was a 2.2).

anyone know if the hookworms would fit?

will using a 7" fork AND a 24" rear void the warranty?

and its a 2003.

thanks,
dylan

you can ride hard on a michelin 2.2, have no fears.

But if you want to ride some street stuff, maybe look into a larson TT 2.35? I use this tire and I like it for street.

If not, run a Kujo DH 2.25, it will be alright, but not as good as the michelin.

Maxxis High Roller 2.35" or Michelin 2.2" in Comp24 or Comp16. You could also check out the Kenda Nevegal 2.3" as it's a pretty grippy tire.
