Unhappy Just dumped my buddy's car over a cliff.

So we're sittin around bored as hell tonight, we say hey why dont we go do some sledding. So the 3 of us pile into my buddy's oldsmobile cutlass and cruise out to the bush (burnt bridge, kapours hill in shawnigan for you locals).

its about a 15 min drive to kapours hill and we start going up the hill which is i guess about a kilometer long, we make it about half the way which is pretty good seeing as how my truck barely made it last week. anywho, we're cruisin up and the tires spin a bit on the ice under the snow, no biggie, we just crawl, spinning for a bit. then the tires spin a bit more, and we've lost all traction. i'm in the passengers seat and i hop out. we start sliding backwards and me and my other friend are bracing ourselfs in a snow bank trying to steer the car away from the cliff.
(I should mention that Kapour's hill is a gravel road running along the side of a mountain with a nice pretty much vertical drop of a few hundred feet to a creek below).

the car starts sliding backwards towards the bank. theres nothing we can do, the ground is a complete sheet of ice, we can barely stand, the tires have absolutely no traction whatsoever in any gear. the back end goes over the cliff and i yell at my buddy to get outta the car. he dives out just as it topples down. thank god a tree was there to stop it.

the car now sits atop kapours hill with the front end sticking in the air, resting on its tranny on a log. right away we call the tow truck company who we are all good friends with, thank god again we still had cell phone reception. we explain to the tow truck buddy what happened and he's givin us the third degree about how dumb we are, well no shit. he says he wont take the job because its too dangerous for his truck. so we call my buddies mom to get us in her truck, she freaks out and calls 911. now the cops are involved. we rip the dash apart to get his deck out and hike out for 45 mins until we meet up with my buddy's bro in his jacked ranger who is also all piss drunk. being the fucking idiot he is he tries to get up the hill and starts sliding as well, even in 4wd. finally we get a ride outta there.

we have no idea how we are going to get the car out, what damage there will be, what insurance will cover, or if anyone is going to trash the car in the meantime.

we met a dude in a jeep on the way down who thinks it may be possible to get another truck to winch it out, but the place it is at is on a sheet of ice. the jeep stopped in 4wd, with his e-brake on and he just slid past us.

if any victoria/nanaimo/duncan kind souls with a powerful truck with chains and a winch, maybe lockers can help us out you would be a hero.

i know we are fucking dumb for even goin out there in an 86 olds cutlass so dont tell me again.
play safe kids and wear a rubber.

the thing is, the truck doing the pulling, even if its using a winch is gonna get zero traction and just slide. this hill is like a 35degree angle and as slick as a skating rink. the trucks gotta be secured to a tree somehow and yank er out with a winch, but as soon as the car is up, its sliding again.

in the back. get a tow strap. lash it to the tree. then, in the front winch out.. most trucks will have a place in the back to strap to.. make sure you use a real winch.. not a comealong.. its not enough.. and the strap you use needs to be rated to hold both the weight of the puller, and the vehicle being pulled.

engine size doesnt matter here.. 1 2.4 L i4 would do the same as a diesel.. you need tugging power. unless the trucks have the distance to back up far enough to pull it back over, it dont matter how big the engine is... you also need to be carefull of the undercarage of your vehicle.. you dont want to mess it up.. dont go for gusto, and yank it hard, and mess it up, when there could be other ways to do less dammage..
just be carefull

ya you're probably right.

the undercarriage is the main concern, there was a log running along the edge of the road that the car is now resting on. the front wheels are over it so it'll scrape the whole way

ah well we'll see how it pans out in the morning.

and Zaskar -- i know man funny as hell, it's gonna be a good story to tell
