Stupid trends that have come and gone in the freeride world

Let's see how many we can come up with..a few that pop to mind:
-riding with you're seat slammed ALL the way down...you're stuck riding around like an adult on a kids bike.
-back in the day when it was "cool" to wear little to no armour.I'm glad that one is changing.

a few that I find stupid at the time being:
the 6 inch single crown forks, the super monster fork, bikes that you can't pedal anywhere except off the edge of a cliff.

i don't think these "trends" have come and gone. seat thing is preference, i leave mine all the way down, so does everyone i ride with. armor is again preference, everyone i ride with just wears a helmet.. sometimes shin pads.

the supermonster trend will always be around, because there will always be people that want a bike they can ride off sand cliffs

Nothing wrong with a six inch single crown. It would make a nice light agro trail riding fork. I tried one of the shermans and I wouldnt hesitate to ride one.

As for trends that have had thier day, I dont see alot of Gazzy 3.0 's on the shore anymore.

I also remember when the Giro Switchblade was THE hardcore helmet to have.

thankfully im not a part of that trend.. I like my seat up at least showing 3-5 inches of seat post..or else why even have a seat post? might as well glue a MX seat on there..
6 inch single crown forks : good improvement, only if they could be a bit lighter but that would jepordize the rider's safety. But the single crown provides one with so much more mobility, such as going down really windy switchbacks or doing an x up or a barspin.
and another thing 1.5" is out of the picture.

Armour + ppl wearing it : good thing.

yeah,i mean it's one thing to ride with you're seat WAY up,but i mean i see people riding along the highway with they're seats as low as they go...even when i'm trail riding i try to keep my seat up a little bit, just so if i do have to pedal my knee's aren't screaming.also, there's a difference if we're talking about a 12 inch hardtail and an 18 inch fully frame..obviously you don't need to raise you're seat as much on the fully.

and that's what i mean by the 6" sc forks..right now they seem somewhat trivial to me because of the weight penalties..a Z150 doesn't weigh much less than my boxxer does...

yea your right z150s dont weight much less but just the fact that it is a SC and has 6" is definately opening a whole new wide range of options for the riders.

What about the rings for racing XC and such that were shaped in an oval so you would get more force and you would bob ahead looking like a goof. Another fad was all the PURPLE ANO!!

Back when i used Dainese leg armour it worked really well, flexible and free enough for dirt jumping and yet protective enough for Mountain. Now for dirt I use TSG knee pads and some shingaurds if I think i need it..
Umm havnt gotten a chance to test out the TSG leg armour for mountain biking but it looks pretty good.
thers a pic of the TSG leg armour for mtb's for ones that are wondering what it look slike
