1.5'' reducer question

Ok this is for my buddy . He's on a gemini with a 5'' lefty max , which he loves for trail riding.

He's starting to race DH and is going to put a 7'' fork on there .
Thing is he wants to be able to change back to the other fork now and again . What would be the best way to do this ?

Or does it involve changing headsets everytime?

He'll need one of the following:

1 1/8 headset
headset tools (press & remover)
1 1/8 fork
the know how to install & remove a headset

or

a 1.5 7" breakout with the headset race installed on the steer tueb

thats about it

He should trailride with the 7" breakout. Not switch back and forth at all.

He should trailride with a Breakout, then put on a real DH fork for racing.

no slider with 1.5 unfortunetly.

i think the breakout would be a good option, and he wouldn't even need the lefty anymore, you can lower the breakout to 5 inchs and the spv damping will be sweet for all around riding.

otherwise he will have to switch headsets a lot

Would you really race DH on a 7" travel SC fork?

Good luck if you decide to...

it isnt like the fork is under built, if you wanted a super light dh bike i could see using a sc.

also i doubt this guy is gonna be super hardcore racer dude, he is riding a gemini, most likely the 100 which is all xc build and isnt exactly a dh race bike.

for the weekend warrior who wants to race every once and a while i think the sherman would be good comprimes between trail performence and dh travel, a little less rigid then your averge race fork but unless you are super serious about racing i doubt that will be a concern.

Weekend racer or not, I would feel more confident with a fork I am not going to snap.

Just my opinion. It could be different for everyone.

All your friend will need is a new stem 1 1/8" and some CLC adapters and 1 headshox headset bearing. He should be able to get those from any cannondale dealer. BSP regularly have them in stock. They press into the stock Cannondale headset so he can just swap forks without ever changing the headset.
