Forsberg is the best simply because he combines extreme physical play with outstanding offensive and defensive abilites, and the uncanny way of making his teammates better and being a threat every time he is on the ice. The only drawback is that his style often leaves him injured.

Bertuzzi has ALL the tools - size, strength, speed, offensive skills, etc etc. the only thing that keeps him from being on the same plane as Forsberg in the league is the fact that once in a while, big Bert just doesn't show up for the game. Forsberg playes EVERY game.

Niklaus Lidstrom is simply the BEST all around defenseman in the league. Jovo isn't far behind, and this year could be Jovo's year to show him up.

As for goaltenders, nobody that is playing right now can compare to Martin Brodeur. He has done it all and can dominate a game. he is uncanny in that he excels in games with LOW shot counts, something that works well in New Jersey's favor obviously. As any goalie will tell you, it takes tremendous concentration to be able to play at the level with low shot counts. The only man who compares to Brodeur is Patrick Roy and he's retired now.

who knows. could be THE year though. so much depends on two things: 1) goaltending - cloutier or hedberg has to come up big at the RIGHT time. and 2) colorado avalanche/minnesota wild/st.louis blues - the other three western confrence nemises, but all three are beatable. colorado is the big one, because lets face it, they are a real goalie away from being a powerhouse, if they are healthy. but they have an established "winning tradition," unlike the canucks.

As Canucks fan as I am, Jovo has nothing on Lidstrom.

I really think Ohlund is more steady than Eddie. He may not score the as many goals. But his play is really key in big games and he has been known to score a big goal or 2. Jovo is a little more flamboyant.

jovo is unstoppable when he is on. he is more physical than lidstrom actually, and has more of a mean streak. lidstrom makes less mistakes defensively though. last year's playoffs, jovo was better than lidstrom.

Jovo is elite, that's undeniable. However, Lidstrom is in a class of his own. Watch him play, it's not with too much flair, and any standard joe wouldn't pick up on some of the stuff he does, but damn, there's a reason he's got those Norris trophies.

Jovo lays out th ebig dramatic rock em sock em hits, very Scott Steven's like, but really, that's usually unnecessary to stop the play. A mean streak is more fun to watch though.
