Rack for Big Hit

Well its coming christmas time, and I'm looking into the possibilites of getting a rack for my car since my bike doesn't fit inside. Looking for recommendations for racks.....trunk-if any would work w/ a bighit, or a on top rack.
I drive a 99' intrique.

Any recommendations, or a link of some possibilities would be great.

Thanks,
Thom

i used to use the Swagman "twister" plus a top tube adaptor...

u can run 3 oddball design frames on the rack and have each bike angled/spaced to where ever u want it...

its a good design...

http://www.swagman.net/detail.php?id=64800

the Swagman website suks thou it doesnt really show much about how the rack works.. but u get the idea...

each of the 3 bike cradles "spin" on the main rack tube so u can adjust spacing and angle...

the yakima king cobra roof rack is unbelievable... I give it 2 thumbs up. It has a arm that goes around the top of your
front tire as well as a plate that goes behind your front tire... it's so sturdy and I have had 3 big full suspension bikes
on my little vw golf driving up to whister (2 of them were big hits )

here's a link of it in action

P.S. you can use thule or yakima rails interchangebly

the cobra is on sale at rack attack online for 88 USD right now. excellent price and definately 'THE RACK' to have... my buddy has and i'm just waiting for next payday to get mine. should even be worth the drive to the US for it (rack attack in vancouver wants 178 ).

cobra

incidentally, the only difference i can see between cobra and king cobra is the lack of a yakima lock on the cobra (i'll use my own if i'm in the pub)

Top rack's are definately where it's at. Much safer and much better IMO.

I have a Cobra (not the King) and I love it.

I never leave my bike on my roof unattended, so I didn't see a need for a lock, espically since you can just use a regular cable lock to lock it to the roof.

yeah, when I'm away from my car I always lock the king cobra bike holders to the rails with the cable lock that came with it. You never know, the rack is a hot commodity let alone the bikes on it.

Just to make sure it's all there when I get back from my ride

there is that bar that goes from the seatpost to the stem, so it acts like a straight top tube, i forgot what it is called, ask your lbs if they know what i'm talking about.

just the ghetto ones work just fine.

The Yakimas trunk racks with the two prongs that come out. You can always find some little crevice to stick it through.

That's what I'll run if I ever need to get a rack. Roof racks are expensive and make your car look stupid. Sportworks are only for huge trucks and guys with cowboy hats

This one is what you need. It will mount any bike. Loading the bike is easy. You can open your trunk. No worry about a bike sticking up really high off the car. Mounting the rack takes 30 seconds, and you can store it in your trunk.

And if you don't have a hitch on your car, they can be pretty inexpensive.
