Sony sucks.

Well...it's not a bad deal really...a functioning CD head unit for your vehicle for 2yrs. So if the POS unit cost $300...thats only $12.50 a mth.
But I SWEAR, Sony head units have a built in expiry in the 20-24mth range.
As of today.....I've now toasted 3 in 5-6yrs. Not including warranty repairs.

I would like to this time buy a DURABLE head unit. Wattage doesn't matter, (but is usually up there anyways with a decent unit...I run amps

)

Any reccomendations on brand?

Alpine or Kenwood are really good choices... (but for me, its got to be Sony)

I have an Alpine and it is very nice. Pioneer Premier is another good one. If you run all amps look for a H/U with just the pre-outs and no internal amp.

The Apline is in my truck and it does not skip off road. My buddy has a Premier in his truck and it does not skip.

Sony used to make awesome shit. My dad's home stereo amplifier is from 76 and it still works great.

I've never had a problem with Panasonic.
I still have a Blaupunkt (sp?) deck from '94 that still works even though the lcd display has burnt out

If you broke that many, why do you keep buying new ones? My suggestion to you is to go to Future shop, buy whatever you want, get the extended warranty. Then, when a better product comes out, fry it on purpose. The warranty covers that sort of thing.

Well, at the time of this last purchase....it had the most features/looked the best, blah, blah, blah for the money.

And trust me

These things are f'in up all on there own. I'm VERY careful with all electronic equipment. I treat them like they were glass slippers.

I don't know exactly whats on the market......but maybe have a look at Alpine??? Cuz thats ALL they do I think right? Is car audio? I was SUPER happy with Alpine speakers.....WAY better than Sony or Kenwood or even the MTX speakers I used to have.

THATS what mine is!1 i knew it had punk in it... thats what i ahve in my car too, except its older and only plays tapes, and the tuning nob is busted, and is in a forgin launguage, probbly germish

Even better buy it from Costco then you don't even need to fry it just take it back, don't even need a receipt. I returned a piece of a dead plant and got a refund - actually it was the stick that the plant use to be attached to, and got a full refund.
