sram triggers(first impression)
or should i say trigger, as i only run a rear derailleur .
i picked myself up a set of sram triggers at overtime the other day and also picked up the 9.0 rear derailer for a total of a 180 bucks, which is pretty much the same for the shimano counter part. first off, i liked the looks and idea behind the sram product but had refused to go with grip shift.once the trigger came to light i knew i would get a set as soon as they were available. installation was dead simple and so was the set up.i tried to run the shifter inboard of the brake pearch but this was not to be and had to re-install the pearch inside of the shifter.if you brake with your pointer finger you might not like this(shimano is the same), as i like to run the levers as far from the grip as possible. once on the trail the concept of using your thumb to do both is pretty easy although i did catch myself a few times trying to shift with my finger.i loved the fact that the sram derailleur does not bang on the horst link, shifter adjustments are made at the bar and that you can brake and shift at the same time.the 1:1 ratio can be felt when up shifting but i feel that the ease of adjustment far out weighs it.cable routing is also far better then it's rival and is very obvious on my bighit as the chainstay cable route is less then ideal.shifting action was super light compared to the shimano but i feel this is because of the better cable route into the derailleur(no sharp loop of the cable).i also like the fact that there is not gear indicator to break off like the shimano's. all in all i like em.i think as i get used to them i will like em more.80 bucks for the shifter is cheap, although coming from shimano stuff will mean you will have to get the derailleur too...........although i think this is a good thing. The triggers come in Shimano 2:1 (or is Shimano 1:1?) pull too.
You aren't forced to run the SRAM derailuer

No worries dude. I too have at LEAST 5 derailuers raped of parts in my garage (all to keep my 2 year old LX running
)SRAM is a company that has their shit together. But unfortunately, you cannot switch pull ratios. so if you are going to use Shimano derailuers, you are committed to them.

I hate triggers...SRAM is IMO a better company to deal with than Shimano, and I know they're trying to compete and take buisness away from shimano, but why trigers? they're seriously inferior to GS: there's way more shit to break, they're more complicated, and I always hit my knee on the stupid things no matter what I do. I'm waiting to get to the botom of a run and have the damn thing not be there

umm guys with SRAM new triggers u can have it both ways...
use twisters or triggers....neither one is better then the other its all about preference.... its all about the goodness of ESP... for what its worth i have been a Twister-user since 1995 and i'll never use anything else... i can shift (up or down) whenever i want..i dont see it as a problem wether im maching or going slow... oh adn BIGHITTER, that extra loop of cable Shimano's rear D uses is called the "hoop of death", haahahahah.... |

I run my shimano shifter using just my thumb. I like it far better that way.
I rotate the shifter so that the levers almost 90 degrees forward, so the levers are on the back side, then i just use my thumb to push down to shift down, push up to shift up. I can keep my finger on the brake at all times, and the top part of the shifter wont be damged in a crash Last edited by ronald55555; 10-27-2003 at 06:12 AM. |

Well, I do love the shifting of SRAM, but I just blew up my new 9.0 today, and it didn't take too much! The shifter was maybe 2 months old. This one replaced my 9.0SL I had. They both snapped on the body arm (over the spring). Good idea - needs more beef
