Disc setup problem?

I put a set of xt disc on and the rear needed a few spacers but the front is hitting the left side pad with no way of moving the caliper over without removing metal from the caliper or fork. Has anyone had a simular prob? whats the trick? do I need to get one of those surfacing tools or? Thanks for any help.

Never had any problems, but I run Hayes. Could you try using some thin washers as spacers to bring the caliper were its supposed to go ?

Unhappy

No, the caliper is too far to the right and needs to move left. spacers will just move it in the wrong direction.

you could also try using thin spacers on the disc mounting screws to push it out. My friend had to do this a while back when shimano first started making discs and didnt offer the 8" rotor

try chipping some paint off your fork. if you are using an adapter, i'd very very very carefully try taking it down with a file. again, be careful cause you can make a mess of it in no time. if you're mounting the caliper straight onto the fork, carefully take a flat file to it in order to remove more than simply paint

it doesn't take much to make things fit, so be patient, and i think you'll be fine.

no special tools required other than a flat file.

actually, it's not the caliper that changes, it's the fork. sometimes the tolerances on them are not identical. you'll be fine, just don't rush your filing...
