my bac5.2 thread about my new bike

Just buggin ya bac5.2
I want it to be decently light, no chromo cranks or doublewides.
A few questions, what kind of rear hubs does the banshee scream take? just standard size?
I need reccomendations on a bar and stem. I like how Ea50's feel, are Ea70's the exact same but supposedly lighter and stronger?
Need a good front tire thats good in super dry conditions, around 2.65? Needs to fit in 2002 m-arch.
need a decent chain guide that doesnt cost millions
need good mtb cranks... holzfellers or hussys?
need a good chain ring size? Maybe 42t, or 44t.
Should have this for next season:

2003/2004(?) Banshee Scream Med. 16"
Fox RC
2002 7" 20mm Jr. T
8"fr 6" rear avid mech discs on speed dial 7's
dual 26" dbl tracks front on Marz 20mm hub, Rear(??)
bars/stem? Maybe Ea50 on some generic 4 bolt stem?
2.65 kujo rear, front tire(?)
deore all around single chain ring up front(what kind, how many teeth?)
setlaz generic seat
holzfeller or husselfelts? aluminum cranks all feel so scary coming from 3 pc tubulars. Maybe even some LX cranks? I dont do drops to exteme flat ness.
Fsa sky pilot headset or maybe a sealed pig dh.... who knooows

I hope to keep all componentry below $1000.... I can get employee discounts on brakes/shimano stuff and the fork is used, so about $500 for the fork. that leaves only about $300 for everything but frame and fork and brakes...... Can it be done? I doubt it... I already have front wheel, rear tread, and thats it.
anything else Im missing?

if you're not hucking you can probably get away with singletracks in place of doubletracks. they'll fold if you smash them hard though. get a formula dc36-1 rear hub. the scream is 10mm (this years anyway).

personally i'd go for an ea70 bar. if you can afford it pick up a nice stem. if not a 4 bolt aluminum chunk will do the job fine.

hozfeller cranks, no question.

i'd suggest an evil chainguide, even though they are really expensive.

im guessing you're getting stuff through norco. you could check out the funn headbanger headset.

$20 bmx seat.

nah. asama.
they have NECO headsets, but i wouldnt trust the headtube of my brand new frame for some weirdass headset. They look beefy tho. the headset is one of the things ill be spending more money on.
I forgot I can get mag 30s at the same price as welded doubletracks. so mag 30 on the back I guess. Ill have to check and see if they have formula disc hubs. I think they do.

Arrow or Intense 2.5 tire for the front.

FSA PigDH Pro headset. Sealed with cromoly bottom cup.

Shimano XT rear hub would be my choice. It converts easily to the 10mm axle Banshee provides for the 2003 bikes.

I like my TruVativ Husselfelt cranks so far. But if you can get the Holzfellers go for it.

I really like my RaceFace and FSA handlebars. They are probably cheaper than the Easton handlebars. RaceFace, Thomson, and Azonic make some nice stems. The new RaceFace Diablous 31.8mm clamp handlebar and stem looks awesome. TruVativ Holzfeller handlebar and stem are also 31.8mm clamp.

Sorry I am not much help with chainguides and ring sizes.

Holzfellers are made of a much stronger aluminum than the Hussefelts and are therefore much less likely to fail in any way...They're also very light...

Easton EA70 is one of the best bars out there, I'd highly suggest picking one up...

Try to find some cheap, chunky looking, 4 bolt stem at your LBS. They basically all work the same...Oh, and don't buy a Azonic Shorty, they're death to steer tubes...

If you can, try to find a used Evil guide. They appear every once and awhile. I've seen used SRS's go for $100CAN...

I LOVE my 31.8 Diabolous bar. Truly sick. That with the integrated stem on my monster is the stiffest cockpit in the history of mankind .

Seriously, though, the new RF bar isn't too much bling and it feels great and is super burly. It's worth the time finding an inexpensive 31.8 stem

you laugh at my threads about bikes, but how many 40 pound (maybe less?) Scream's will you see out there?

Here's my setup. Take it for what it's worth. It's the culmination of everybody on this board helpin me out.

Large Banshee Scream (03/04, 8" model)
Manitou Sherman Slider (03)
Race Face Diablous Stem (50mm)
Answer Pro-Taper bars (2" rise)
Intense Lock On grips
Sun Rhynolite XL's laced to Marz 20mm front and Hadley 108 special rear (10mm bolt on).
Nokian NBX 2.3" Kevlar tires
SRAM PC99 Chain
SRAM 9.0 Cassette
Race Face North Shore Downhill's with Salsa rings (30/3 and an MRP LRP
SNAFU pedals
Truvativ Gigapipe Team DH BB
2002 Hayes purple's with 8" rotors
FSA PIG headset

I think that's it?

I too was looking to keep everything innexpensive, and even at EP, I broke the hell out of my "limit."

How is the LRP? PM me the details if you could.

I went over budget on my custom bike as well. I do not care too much because I now have what I wanted.

Rusty - If I had my frame here, I would most definately hook you up with the information. I am a month away from my Scream, so I'll let you know then.

Bac5.2 no hard feelings man, I was just bugging ya. Im probably more stoked than you are on a banshee.

I might end up just getting a banshee complete but I will build the frame up if I can save money that way. At least building it up I'll get everything I want.
