02 Shiver SC... crown problems? good idea?

I'm thinking of picking up a used 02 Shiver SC to put on my new frame (pics to come on monday!). I'm wondering if they suffer from the same Cryo-suck issues as the other Marz single crowns.

I'll be using it for trail riding on a hardtail.

I won't be back biking until September after a 5 month-forced-by-injury hiatus so I won't be going too big (not that I ever went very big).

I'd rather just pick up a nice dual crown like a super or a slider, but as for most folks, $$$ is at a premium.

Any advice appreciated,

Have you ridden one bigbadburt? Upon reading the reviews here, and at mtbr, it seems as though most people only notice the flex when they're standing in the parking lot reefing on it with the wheel between their legs.

What way did you notice the flex? Fore/aft or only torsionally?

The Shiver SC is a perfect trail riding fork. It's pretty hard to notice any flex issues when riding the fork.

If you apply the front brake and reef on the front wheel, you will get more flex than traditional forks with a fork brace. So far I haven't ridden a trail that has mimicked this situation.

The Shiver SC is plush, really responsive to small and mid size bumps. Pretty much the ideal trail riding fork.

Regarding the crown. The Shiver SC has a different crown than the other Marz SC forks. It's beefier and has to make up for a lack of an arch. I'm not sure if others have had difficulties with their crown, but so far, mine has been problem free.

Would I recommend it to all the hucksters and big droppers?...NO! It's only an SC fork and isn't meant to be abused.

Let's get some more opinions from people that actually have ridden/own a Shiver SC. You'll find that a lot of people base their opinions from what a friend's friend's roommates cousin's hairdresser have said.

i had one and it lasted a year, but i did have to warrenty it once for cyro shit problems. i think it only happens along the steerer though.

it was a pretty nice fork, it does flex more than some of todays newer sc, 03 dj1 or a sherman flick.

it is not that bad, feels like a 02 z1 with normal droupouts. it is amazingly smooth.

ahh it was nice, i broke the crown once, then destroyed the stachions a few months later but now i got a sherman, i really wanted something a little more solid up front. the sherman is so rigid it is sick. for a sc it is really amazing and feels great too, and it has compression damping.

ahh shiver scs are nice forks for lighter weight riding, dual slamon, smooth dirt jumping, fx and light trail riding.

imo for street, hard freeriding and harsh dirtjumping i would go with a sherman or a dual crown.

btw i do notice the flex in like rock gardens and such, u can tell it just isnt as direct or point and shoot as other burlier forks, ohh and for 50% of the time mine was mounted on giant ac1, then for the next part it was on a .243.

i moslty street rode it on the .243 but on my old ac i did everything including dh all over the country.

True.
One person said it flexed and everyone jumped on the bandwagon cause you know, hearing stuff on the internet gives you the right to talk out of your ass.

My friend has one and he's 175. He feels no flex at all, UNLESS you put it in between your legs and reef on it. Which of course, happens all the time on the trail.

The only thing to worry about is routing your hydro lines properly, they can flex oddly and break if you have them too securely tied to the fork, especially if you have the steel braided ones. Just do some magic work with zap straps they don't hold the line on the fork, they sort of support it. I wish I had a picture to show you, I can't explain at all.

Good fork, rode one for a while. I didn't fall in love. But definetly a worthy fork. Put some heavy springs in it. I rode one on your .243. Good fork for that frame. I didn't feel flex at all. Im light, (130ish) but as long as you aren't going huge im sure it'll work great for you in all aspects.
