the hills were what did me in. I've got scratches on my arms from passing people through bushes. I think I passed about 50 people on the Rip and the Plunge but flatted and about half of them got by me again.

I was in the Freeride cat. but barely. I don't think 31lbs is a freeride bike anymore. At least 35+ lbs should be more like.

For your comments you have now inherited bad freeride karma.

Maybe check out some other posts LeeLau has put up. I have never met the man, but his biking stories inspire me. By the sounds of it (and don't shoot me if I'm wrong) but he rides more frequently, and more epics than I even want to think about. I get cramps at the thoughts of some of his rides he's mentioned. I hope when I'm his age (no offence, but I'm grinnin) I'm in half of his shape, and have all his passion for riding.

I just figured if I was gonna dish props to you, I'd send some to LeeLau as well. I need that heeling karma to come my way....

Re: sorry lee

Too late! I went for a ride and flailed on all the skinnies. After I read my original post, I cringed as it did sound really harsh. Gotta think before hitting the reply key.

The last Test of Metal I did was probably the race that made me quit. I had three flats; broke my chain; blew up on Lava Flow Hill and when I got to the top of the Ring Creek Rip, Chad Miles - the winner - was coming into the finishing stretch. Ooohh that hurt.

The worst thing was getting jammed up in the Plunge behind all the guys in the T-shirts and camelbacks. I was PISSEED and they kept walking the corners and wouldn't freaking let me pass.

Then I remembered that I was behind them. Double ooohhh that hurt.

That's what your story reminded me of; the thrill of passing people in tight corners.

If you ever want to do something fun, come up to Squish in Halloween and do the Lunar Enduro - Made in the Shade at night!

You are too kind. My days of competitive racing are far behind.

I will get up to Squish and have you school me on Mrs Wiggles bum. I can show you how to do a double back flip of the teeter on Roadside Attraction.

I did the test last year, toughest race I've ever done by FAR. Props for pulling through and finishing. I had a similar thing happen just coming out of the powerhouse plunge. I stood up to power on the gravel road and my legs just seized up, by far the worst cramps I've ever had. I just coasted over to the side of the road and fell over. After a couple minutes I managed to get going again but man was it ever painful. Crumpit woods, which is otherwise a great ride, just seemed to go on forever. My hands were killing me in that section, in hindsight my bike set-up (hardtail, air fork pumped up hard, 2.1 tires at 55 psi) was not the hot ticket for such a race. I was really glad to finish though, it definatly feels good to cross that finish line. My time was four hours and two minutes.

It'll take a lot more than that Ned. Sometimes I wish I still had it but nah... I'd just rather ride for myself now

Loop is about 20 - 25 minutes; Sorca shelter - > Ed's Bypass -> Robs -> Cliffs - > shelter. Goes from 12.30 to 6.30 at Halloween. Sorry not Made in the Shade. That's been the course for last 3 years but it can change. Usually an announcement is sent out on the sorca list
