Riding in the Canadian Rockies - Kananaskis Country and Canmore

There are many place to travel in the world. Really we should check them out sometime. For some reason the Canadian Rockies keep calling us back.

Leaving Wednesday, for 10 days.

Might be out there mid-Sep.. Haven't done anything solo in that area for almost a decade and I'm looking forward to getting back to nature.

Powderface Ridge in Kananaskis Country

The first time I rode in the Rockies we did this ride. It seemed epic then. It’s still epic but more like an old friend.

Argh!! That 's making me miss Calgary. This isn't suppose to happen:-)

Great pics!

Camping at Dawson Equestrian is a great option if one is riding the Jumping Pound-Cox Hill loop. That huge descent on Dawson is awesome, and it lands you right in the campsite.

Too bad the riding season is so short. Amazing trail building opportunities there though... Could you imagine a Squid Line off Powderface Ridge!!!!!

We hung out by Jumpingpound creek at Dawson drinking beer and waiting for Lee to get the car. I would definitely consider camping there! WAY nicer then the Bow...

The riding around Jasper is wonderful; road, MTB and 'cross (lots of gravel roads that need exploring).

It's not so much the short season (there always were the misery sticks and the board), but it was the seemingly endless shoulder seasons! And then I would get sent to some exotic humid hell for work, and loose most my summer

Quite often in the evenings we would do the long Powerface loop. Up to Powederface Ridge then ride the real fun descent to Powderface road, head north on the road for a few clicks and cut back into Prairie Creek.

The Jumpingpound/Cox hill trail at night is something else, an amazing night ride, especially when you cut the lights at the top. Speaking of which, there is a family of Marmots living among the rocks before the final big DH. And Mosquitos....and mosquitos....and mosquitos

Moose: you would have like Jean Guy, SHAFT, and U Shoulda (LONG flowy moderate grade DH off the Husky Compressor station on Ing's Mine side) So much fun!
